How Do We Demand 3 Debates Without Lowering Expectations About Bush?
It seems crucial to me that we get 3 nights of Kerry nailing Bush to the wall. On the other hand, watching Bush run away from the debates only helps him to lower expectations about his performance.

Any thoughts on what approach the Dems could take to win without losing on this one?

1. Didn't Poppy and Reagan debate their opponents 3 times ?
I'd throw that in Georgie's face and insinuate that he's not as much of a manly-man as his 2 hero's. Then his dumbass will probably demand 6 !

27. And
Clinton only had 2 debates with Dole in 1996. I believe this will be the Bush* argument. I would like to see more, but I think JFK will demolish Bush in 1, 2 or 3 debates. JFK is a polished debater and will make Bush look like the chimp he is.

17. Hmm, Maybe Making It An Issue Of Pride Or Integrity And Not Smarts
or maybe about Bush's manhood.

Junior isn't MAN enough to face three debates?

3. Demand one town hall style debate
because this is the one he wants to drop. Talk about how Shrub is afraid to talk to the American people. Bring up how this is a pattern of cowardice and evasion. If he doesn't go with 3 debates, this will score us points with voters.

6. Good Point Bring Up Bush Secrecy And Dearth Of Press Conferences
Say that Bush must be held accountable to the people, that he has to come out of the bubble where his aides give him the daily news and the only people at his rallies are forced to swear loyalty oaths.

Seriously, have you ever even READ ABOUT an adminstration so secretive and unaccountable? Did Watergate teach us nothing?

7. Agree, but with an addition
Bush has had the fewest number of Press conferences of ANY President in modern history.

This is the hook.....He's President of ALL the People, he should answer the People's questions.

9. Bush sure as hell will show up. He played this same game with Gore,
Gore got all over Bush wanting to limit debates and thus, seriously hinderd himself by lowering the expectations for Bush.

4. Simple, Kerry says:
"President Bush proved in 2000 that he is a very formidable debater. The Debate Commission has set up three debates this year. I will accept the challenge and appear at all three. I will not negotiate about these debates."

That's it.

5. Kerry has to show up at the debate location and wait for Bush.
If Bush does not show up, then Kerry can nail him. Kerry or any Dem cannot publically state that Bush is a bad debator or is a whimp for skipping debate, unless it is really skipped. Kerry can slam him if he does not show up. Everyone must warn your friends and family that Bush is an excellent debator, who never lost a debate. Keep Kerry's debate expectations low and Bush's high. This is how the media judges debates, they are based on likability and expectation not on substance.

10. Demand 3 debates ON THE ISSUES, not on the commercials,
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 07:00 PM by havocmom
and go into it making the case that 'the sitting President of the United States of America should have NO TROUBLE discusing the issues' seems as how he is in command and all...

Make people expect that a sitting president should have the edge in any debate- he's the president! HE has all the resources of the United States of America at his disposal. HE has the best and the brightest taking the pulse on every matter and problem, keeping every issue under constant observation. HE has the best and brightest analysing and coming up with solutions to all the problems facing the nation... HE should be able to mop the floor with any challanger... THAT is what we should be grooming the voters to expect. THAT is the way it SHOULD be.

The fact that it isn't will become obvious when Kerry/Edwards mop the floor with the Chicken Hawks who claim to be good leaders.

If a sitting president cannot win debates on the issues which are important to the American people, he/she has no damned business sitting in the Oval Office. THAT is the notion we need to instill in the back of everyone's minds as they watch debates

Why do people believe that dubya is above us? The people who are "running" this Country works for us.
Write to the WH and tell them you want to see three debates or shrub isn't getting a vote from you.

Tomorrows Kerry/Edwards Talking points * AWOL FROM DEBATES

JFK: "George W. Bush* was AWOL in wartime, He was AWOL On Septr 11, and now he is Awol on debating the issues critical to America's future"

Picture of * reading to My Pet Goat playing with F911 closeup shot of the air head in chief not knowing whether to shit or steal third!!! I would love it.

If you think this merits getting top the campaign please forward it to them if you have good contacts.

21. Not trying to be negative here, but....
...Gore gored Smirk in the 2000 debates, but the way the whore media turned it around, bunnypants won them. Why? Because Gore sighed too loudly! Forget the policies that will make or break this country for the next 4 years....the election hinges on how loud someone sighed at a damn debate! My fear is that Kerry will take him apart, but the whore media will spin it into a Bush win like they did 4 years ago and the brain-dead idiots who let the CNNs, MSNBCs, FOXs, ABCs, and NBCs do their thinking for them will buy into that crap when they annoint Bush the winner even though we all know he doesn't stand a chance.

Kerry should say that he'll be there no matter what. The debate commission should let him debate if he shows up.

23. ask "what are you trying to hide?"
"We hear that you object to a town hall debate and questions directly from the American people. We know you don't allow independants and undecided Americans to see you at your rallys. Why are you trying to hide from Americans at a debate? What are you trying to hide?"
