Against Bush? Will it be another CBS story? I sense that a few people may already know about it. It's coming and he won't even be able to spin it on FOX or Limbaugh. It will be that bad! It's coming folks. Can't you just feel it ! This lying sucker is going to be exposed. Do you think this is wishful thinking or do you think my instincts need adjusting? :)

But I hope you are right, and that it breaks SOON, and the sooner the better.

2. I don't know, Kentuck.
I had this bizarre, edge-of-sleep notion last night, just before I fell asleep, that somebody high up might start spilling. Powell, maybe, or somebody high up in one of the security agencies. I've wondered if maybe the WH didn't directly respond to the TANG memos was because they suspected somebody in the administration betrayed them. Don't ask me why this took hold of me last night, but it did. I'm perfectly willing to ascribe it to wishful thinking, but I think you could be right -- some unpredictable shit may be about to hit some invisible fan.

33. If Kerry has in fact regained momentum, I think the coWard will lose..
allies left and right. I would not be surprised if we have seen the last of John Mccain campaigning with him.

Once the cumulative evidence starts to mount, even partisan republicans will not want to be associated with this administration. McCain won't want to be any more associated with a known coward, liar, etc. than he already is, if he wants to run in 2008.

Any republican who wants to get moderate votes anywhere from now on will flee the shrub.

4. The administration has declared war against CBS, and both parties know it
I wonder what Sumner Redstone is thinking right now?

If the administration retains power, they will come down like the proverbial ton of bricks on CBS, and that may precipitate some interesting things. The Junta is incredibly vindictive, and it could be quite a plum for CBS to be seen as the one true voice of honesty bringing it down.

If CBS thinks it can get out of this without SERIOUS retaliation, it's in serious trouble.

23. It's disgraceful that news stations are allowed to own corporations
that depend on government patronage. It's a built-in conflict of interest. No wonder the press is so sympathetic to shrub.

CBS owns nuclear power and nuclear disposal companies, which are completely dependent on congressional legislation.

The other news companies own General Electric. It's ridiculous.

American citizens need to clean house and get these monopolies broken up again. This is what the Reagan revolution caused. It was all about deregulation so that the corporations could grap everything in sight and control the news.

Why are people so blind!

43. It's not a news station and it's the other way around.
CBS is a network, it is not a news station.

CBS is owned by a corporation. It is not especially the other way around. Though CBS may own companies, the salient fact is that it is itself owned by a larger corporation.

General Electric owns NBC and is a partner in MSNBC.

There is nothing wrong with networks owning companies, such as production companies. There is nothing wrong with companies owning networks.

No fuzzy thinking here please.

That all said, the main thrust of your post is a good one, that there is an over-concentration of media ownership.

24. Anything big that happens will affect the campaign.
I am more inclined to think that a big event is about to happen in the way of either terrorism or a major blow up in Iraq. Pakistan is suddenly getting very critical of Bush, Al Qaida is sending out new messages everyday, we are losing ground fast in Iraq, Blair may be impeached...all kinds of stuff looming about.

Sorry, maybe my tinfoil hat is on too tight, but I have a bad feeling. Not a bad feeling about the election. I really believe Kerry will win. But rather a bad feeling that involves a lot of death and destruction.

27. Carla, we have a few people here with special powers....
Some have an extra-sensory perception of sorts...They can pick up these vibrations thru the air and rumor mills and predict the future. They just have the feeling. They just know something is about to happen. It can not be explained. It is just something some people are blessed with or cursed with, depending on the circumstances. And some people are full of bullshit but they understand the human condition and the need to believe in a better world. I hope this makes everything much clearer for you. :)

35. This is interesting...from Reuters.UK

Look who the 'crazies are said to be'

A furious row has broken out over claims in a new book by BBC broadcaster James Naughtie that US Secretary of State Colin Powell described neo-conservatives in the Bush administration as 'fucking crazies' during the build-up to war in Iraq.
Powell's extraordinary outburst is alleged to have taken place during a telephone conversation with Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. The two became close friends during the intense negotiations in the summer of 2002 to build an international coalition for intervention via the United Nations. The 'crazies' are said to be Vice-President Dick Cheney, Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz.

36. Hope so...
I just sent this to half a hundred news contacts on the media blaster:

--------------------------------------------------
Completely overlooked in the scrutiny of president Bush's guard records is the fact that they represent solid evidence that he committed a federal offense when filling out his Guard application.

Namely, they indicate that he committed an Article 83 fraudulent enlistment under the UCMJ, a crime with a maximum punishment of a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of pay, and 2 years jail time. He did this by witholding the fact that he had been either detained or outright arrested by Princeton police in 1967, just a few short months before the application was filled out, hardly enough time for him to have forgotten it occured!

Sources for the Princeton incident:

USA Today:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2004-02-11-bush-guard-usat_x.htm

Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/campaigns/wh2000/stories/bush072799.htm

NY Times article:
http://www.dke.org/bushyaletimes.html

Guard record disclosures which withheld Princeton incident:

1. http://www.usatoday.com/news/bushdocs/3-Grade_Determination.pdf (Page 37, bottom of page)

"19. Have you ever been detained, held, arrested, indicted, or summoned into court as a defendent..."

Even if he was just detained, let alone arrested, it needed to be disclosed there. It wasn't.

2. http://www.usatoday.com/news/bushdocs/1-Enlistment_Packet.pdf (Page 14)

3. http://www.usatoday.com/news/bushdocs/3-Grade_Determination.pdf (Page 18)

4. http://www.usatoday.com/news/bushdocs/3-Grade_Determination.pdf (Page 20)

UCMJ article 83:

www.jag.navy.mil/documents/mcm2000.pdf (page 285-286)

Please let me know whether or not you will investigate this. Unless all the above cited sources are wrong about Bush having a run-in with the police in Princeton in 1967 this is a very serious matter. If this information had been disclosed it might have resulted in his application being rejected as this incident was significantly more serious than anything that DID get disclosed.

-Grant

Have you read about Peak Oil? Have you read Michael Ruppert's speech to the Commonwealth Club?

I feel as if I need information on how to protect my daughter and myself should the social disruption occur that Ruppert forecasts for 2007. It appears that there's going to be a LOT of war and chaos around the world.

Even if we elect a forward-thinking president, there will still be chaos as other countries can't meet their needs for energy.

Geez. I'm just running a whole bunch of things in my head. I need to study up on the ramifications of Peak Oil.

41. I don't claim to have ESP or anything, but look at what is happening
1. Something big exploded in North Korea, the most isolated wild-card nation in the world. Shrub agitated their paranoid leader by naming them as part of his stupid "axis of evil" and then proceeded to invade Iraq. Ever since then North Korea has been threatening to do something major to us. Of course the bush-bot press ignores this, but that seems to make North Korea madder than ever. I don't trust a single person in the chimp administration to make a sensible diplomatic decision regarding anything. North Korea is a pot getting ready to boil over.

2. Reports indicate that we are losing Afghanistan. The Taliban/al Qaeda appear to have control of most of the country. In other words, our invasion and occupation of Afghanistan may be a total failure.

3. More American troops were killed in Iraq during August than in any previous month. According to the neo-cons who talked Congress into supporting this disaster, Iraq is supposed to be the most peaceful loving democracy on earth right now. This is a major, major failure, and it's costing billions of dollars and thousands of lives.

4. A tell-all book is due on Tuesday that will contain a lot of dirt about the Bush family. The really sad news is that most of this will not be news to those of us who have been paying attention. Most of the stuff is already documented. It's just that the bush-bot press suppressed it and most Americans haven't bothered to become informed. Well, the vegetables are coming out in candy form next week, and I suspect that a lot of freeper house-wives and nice church ladies are going to eat it up. And they aren't ever going to feel quite the same about Bush again.

5. Seymour Hersh's book, containing graphic details about torture and rape of children in Abu Ghraib, is going to be impossible for the press to ignore completely. Some of it will trickle down to the masses, even those with their fingers firmly in their ears.

6. The appalling truth is that the Bush family has nothing - nothing! - of any credibility to fall back on. Their entire approach is based on lies and bullying. When the wheels start to come off the wagon, it will be like every other fascist regime coming apart. I hope it happens before November 2, and it's starting to look that way.

FTW puts things in a larger context where it is possible to connect the dots.

We get so overwhelmed wth news (some of it deliberately distractive -- maybe a LOT of it), it is easy to forget important stories from three months ago or six months ago.

I needed these reminders.

And, yeah, something important is about to happen.

50. The underlying implication is that of cocaine use in the past...
People who have done a lot of cocaine sometimes suffer strokes early in life. Mini-strokes can cause blackouts, falling down...... Could Cheney end up in charge?

Bernstein. This administration is like the poppy fields on the way to OZ.

There's gotta be hundreds of potential Pulitzers out there, acres of them, but the poppys just put the the media in a stupefied compliant trance!

Forgot to add: Deep is gonna be in a garage smoking his ass off, wondering where his media pals have gone.

53. Rather's "October Surprise"?
I can't help but wonder if Rather/CBS don't already have the documentation to blow open the coke/community service part of the story and are just patiently waiting for the current furor to die down before presenting "Exposed: Part Two."

While brushing off the critics, Rather repeatedly asks "WHY did he disregard a direct order.......WHY didn't he report for his physical?" Could he be trying to direct the discussion to its next logical segment on "60 Minutes"?

Consider that Kelly's book next week might be enough to kick the door wide open for this exact line of inquiry.

54. That's what I was thinking
Let Kelley's book come out with the coke accusations. Then let all the neo-cons and freepers inundate us with all the excuses and reasons it's not true and is just more Bush bashing. Then Rather comes on with documented proof and blows their a**es out of the water again like he did with Killian's memos. With this corrupt crowd, it's turned into a game of one-upmanship, and I think Rather's just waiting to be the man to up them again!

55. Yes
An October surprise has become part of the culture. Wait a couple weeks and drop the big story and boost your ratings. Remember at least half the country disagrees with the trend the media is taking. CBS or some enterprising outlet could easily tap into the frustration many are feeling with Scarborough, Hannity, and the other right wing nuts plastered all over the tube. The bottom line is money. Provide some drama and you may get a couple Emmy's maybe even a Pulitzer as well as becoming a player in a supposedly hotly contested election.

56. yeah, my computer...
I need a new one desperately.

Oh, you meant the campaign...

What I hope it would be: A juicy scandal about the chimp. Because dissecting typefaces may be fun for us, but the average American will tune it out unless it is ripe with salaciousness.

An affair would be ideal. ;)

59. truth to rumors?
ok, this may sound like a rumor, but came from a reliable source, a popular gov't rep in the Seattle area that a good friend of mine met was introduced to a few months ago. I personally see no reason to disbelieve either of them, but take it as you will that "the scuttlebutt in WA is that the military is intentionally leaking damaging info b/c they are po'd at Bush for this war"

This was stated months ago, shortly after the prisoner abuse photos were released, and now with these damning service records being released, I'm inclined to put some hope and faith in his atatement.

66. Welcome to DU, Seattle!
Many of us have heard that many long-time Pentagon employees despise Rumsfeld and the people he has brought in. Rumsfeld began attempting to transform the military structure as soon as chimp took office. 9/11 gave him a lot of momentum.

I've seen the impact of chimp's ideological appointees on other departments. They're a mess. I've never seen so many angry bureaucrats.

and it helps us all to remember that the neocons don't have all the money...yet. I believe some someones influential are going to burst the Bushy Bubble very soon, because they recognize the danger another four year term for * would hold for their nation.
Hope we are all "right" in the gut!!!!!

69. I don't know, but I expect more evil deeds from Rove.
Rove's modus operandi is to wait for a crucial moment to unleash smears. The smears against Kerry are ongoing and have continued since the beginning of August, so I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled another stunt, got another lie around and firmly established in the media before it can be debunked.

With Bush, I cannot tell. The Kitty Kelley book may indeed catch on in a big way, and of course there are more films and books coming out to bring home what an evil wretch he is.

Bush's biggest enemy may actually be outside circumstances. We could have unfavorable economic news, a disaster (or multiple disasters) in his military and foreign policy, etc. Who knows?

71. Don't Know About Something Big About To Happen but I do
know you get caught up in your lies sooner or later and you can only cover up so much shit in the sandbox. I think Bush Co & Inc. are getting filled to the brim and can't keep covering up their dirty work much longer.

Hope whatever it is comes out sooner than later.

72. Look at this weird photo of Bush
To me it has a troubling look to it, like the end of the world is near with Bush rallying his Christian Army and leading them towards the place of raputure. Anyone else thinks this is kind of a scary photo?

73. Could it be worse than starting a war of choice, helping your friends
to profit off the blood of dead people, fucking up our reputation around the world, forcing rogue nations to fear us to the point they have begun to develop nuclear weapons in hopes of defending themselves against us, getting the Russians mad at us for messing in Chechen and other affairs of the Caucusus and reminding us they are themselves a nuclear power, not showing up for Guard duty when it appeared there was no chance he'd have to go to Vietnam anymore, having some poor guy take his spot in Vietnam so he could keep his rich ass home, putting together an entire administration of draft dodging oil magnates, selling the soul of our country off to the highest bidder and pitting Americans against each other in meaningless culture and geographical (heartland versus city) wars?

If it's worse than that, I'd love to see it. Too bad, nobody will notice.
