Have any of you said, "I told you so..." about Bush to any of your friends and family?
My bestest guy pal...social liberal, fiscal conservative, NRA nut...voted for Bush not once but twice. When the economy mega went South, I looked at him and said that and, funny thing, he knew EXACTLY what I was talking about. He then replied that voting for Bush was "the biggest mistake" he had ever made.

I am up early ~~ live on the West Coast ~~ because I am absolutely dying from the flu that has been going around. Thought DU might be the medicine I needed! Thanks for making me feel better.

And, I know what you mean about a shrinking group of pals. At this point in my life ~~ I am a senior ~~ I just avoid the jerks that cannot rationally discuss that Bush was a complete and total failure. Thank heavens for Obama ~~ my social life has improved greatly since in California his margin was huge! Suddenly, there sure are a lot more people I can relate to!

7. No, because I can't find anyone who voted for Bush...either time.
Even though I KNOW of friends and some family members who voted for Bush, they all act like they never, ever considered him as a viable candidate.

I'd be ashamed, too.

What I'd love to say, and have bitten my tongue in half to keep from saying, is..."You are also responsible for the mess this country is in, because you wouldn't listen when I told you Bush was a spoiled brat, who had never succeeded at anything in his life...why would he act differently now? Do NOT vote for him, or you'll be sorry, and so will I."

What I do, though, is act dumb and make the statement that Bush/Cheney aren't alone in causing this misery. Everyone who voted for him and who supported him are just as guilty. Maybe not the first go-round, but definitely the second.

...of voting for * twice!

:hi:

And I do agree ~~ Bush and Cheney did not do the damage all by themselves. They had the help of the Religious Right who ~~ gag me ~~ had Gawd on their side and picked Bush.

:puke:

I guess Gawd played a joke on them when he told them to vote for Bush, right? Or could it be Gawd was hastening the End Times???

And this is a smart guy. What I think did it was the NRA bull he got in the mail constantly. My pal is soooooooo concerned about gun rights. He also bought into Kerry being a bad person for protesting the war. Funny part? My pal adores me and he has come to pick me up from War Protests on his motorcycle. Has never has a problem with me and my protests. Go figure.

You are soooooo lucky to have a Dem family. Mine? Bunch of RW pubbies!

19. Wedge issues...
...that seemed to do the trick in the past. I think you are correct and I agree ~~ it's the old "fool me once" thing...at least I hope so. Not working like this used to on "fear" issues.

I was talking to this same pal last night over dinner ~~ he brought me chicken soup cuz I am sick ~~ and he now has come around totally on Bush ~~ but still is spouting the NRA bullshit about guns. He actually is willing to give Obama a chance ~~ but the "wait and see" is mostly over the "taking away guns" crap.

He and I have had so many conversations over the years, that I was amazed to learn recently that he now holds my opinion on the death penalty. He used to have RABID support for it ~~ no longer feels this way. Now realizes that the crimial justice system is rather flawed and innocent men (and women) have gotten the DP.

I doubt if I can get him to back off of the total gun nut bull...but he is learning and improving. At least he has always been mega liberal on social issues. Has no problems with gay marriage, abortion, etc. Feels that these are "private" matters and the govt should stay the hell away from rights that people exercise which have -0- impact on the rights of others.

11. I've engaged in a bit of schadenfreude
with my fundie relatives of which I'm not especially proud (although they had it coming). However I really stuck it to my racist, Bush-loving former co-workers. Sent them a huge cake with Obama's picture in icing, congratulatory ballons and a huge banner reading "Congratulations President Barack Obama" which caused massive heartburnings, wailings and gnashings of teeth in that office.

12. No.
Among all of my (extended) family and friends, there are a number of republicans. Only one considered George W. Bush as a good choice twice. He is a teacher at the state university system, and an extremely decent guy. But there are areas where his thinking is very different than my own. One day, when discussing the then up-coming Kerry vs Bush election, he said, "Well, you have to admit that Bush is a good christian." I explained that in my opinion, Bush was Herod, and that his causing the suffering and death of Iraqi children seemed a bit opposite of Jesus's teachings. It was the last time that we discussed politics.

My sane brother in law and I voted for Obama, and the rest of our family tells us we are going to hell for it. They worship the ground Bush walks on and they slobber all over him just like the Jesus Camp kids do.

Yes, they keep sending me the e-mails about the phony birth certificate, and they have a "prayer chain" going for God to intervene to remove all godless Democrats.

I just wonder what the assholes over at the Presidential Prayer Team are going to do on January 20th...

26. They're brainwashed by their church
Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 10:51 AM by Joe Bacon
They got snagged one by one into the Assemblies of God which turned them from Carter supporters to hard core Reaganites and they all shoot out the same Fox News talking points.

And they are also in the prayer chain hoping that the Supreme Court declares that Obama is ineligible for the Presidency. All of them insist that Obama was born in Kenya and they are all involved in pushing the Berg case.

I remind them that Biden would become President if the Slappy and his Whore Court pals declare Obama ineligible for the Presidency. The response I get from them...

"Well, we can live with a white catholic. We cant live with a black muslim president"

I truly despise churches.

17. Anyone who would have considered seriously voting for Bush in
2000, would have been on my short list for friends I would begin to call "acquaintances" from that point forward.

But if they insisted upon voting for Bush in 2004, after those first four years, I would have definitely stopped sending them Christmas cards, returning their phone calls, and doing anything in my free time with them.

I don't suffer fools easily.

21. I found I had to put some of those 2 times voters in different categories...
...some turned out to just have too much Faux Noise in their lives and they mega turned around on this last election once I pointed them in the right direction and gave them some facts. Let's face it ~~ when the economy bottomed out, they were stunned that the Pubbie trickle down theory had screwed them over. I can deal with those who were uninformed and finally got the picture. A bit late...but at least they admit the errors and are willing to move on and not make the mistake again.

The ones I cannot deal with are the ones ~~ like the Evangels ~~ who think the law of the land should be the Bible. You know the ones ~~ the Sarah Palin crowd. Gag me.

18. No. It's Not Worth the Bother
I learned that lesson back in the early 1990s, when my sister-in-law who was always bitching about Mario Cuomo and NYS taxes lost her job when Pataki came in slashed the state budget grants for special-needs educational facilities.

Oh no, no, no, not only did she not regret her vote, she refused to even admit there was a connection. Just as she saw no hypocrisy in using state money (from my brother's health insurance) for fertility treatments.

28. Yes, and I really enjoyed it
A co-worker actually suggested I leave the US since I 'hated America' when I told her that Bush would go to war after 9/11 and kill innocent people even though he could deal with the crimes through international co-operation and laws.

After he stole the second election (anyone who thinks Rove left Bush's 'win' to chance is naive about how the criminal mind functions) she said she wished someone would assassinate him, and tried to claim 'no one saw it coming'. I said, "Excuse me?!" and she immediately back-pedaled and said, "Well, except you!"

Other co-workers were there.

30. Not yet but there is one friend of mine that I can't wait to run into
We're not very close anymore because I can't stomach him gushing over Rush Limbaugh whenever he's seen me in the last few years. He would always sing the praises of the right wing nutjobs, yet he wouldn't admit that he was a right winger himself when I would call him that. Since well before the election, he's kind of been staying out of sight, lol, but when I run into him, he'll be the only one I will rub it into.

I have another very conservative older friend who is the nicest guy in all the world. I'm actually looking forward to having a coffee with him some morning and getting his perspective on everything and the way it all turned out. He's a nice man and doesn't try to force his views down anyone's throat, as opposed to the other guy I mentioned up above.

I also have a right wing racist nephew who I'll probably give a little ribbing to when I see him, although I have to be careful with him because I heard he is extemely distraught about the election. He thinks that our country is sick because we elected a black man as President. My nephew is family and I love him, but he is so off his rocker when it comes to race.

37. I am waiting for my opportunity with my SIL and BIL but that chance is now changed
due to my husband's upcoming heart catheterization. I am going to have to talk to my SIL about her brother's condition after we get the diagnosis. I don't want to bring up politics at that time, obviously, but it has deeply colored our thinking about both her and her husband's rethuglican voting. Basically, they were trying to say that they were prochoice and pro gay rights but they still were voting rethug because those issues "weren't the only issues." I am still really pissed about that statement and am glad that I have been vindicated. But there are times when I get tired of being "right." As the saying goes, reality does have a liberal bias, but it sucks to be right and lose, doesn't it?

At some point, with them, the time will come. However, right now my husband's health concerns have to be front and center...
