I've privately thought for a long time that he is an abuser, his personality fits the profile to a tee, and just a sense I had. I've worked in domestic violence shelters and whenever I saw a photo of her I could just feel her isolation and pain.

He is the epitomy of evil.

10. Most abusers are "wimps" in the way I think you mean

Abusers usually have very poor self-esteem, which they hide by acting super-macho. They attempt to control everything in their environment in an effort to control the fear and anxiety they feel inside.

When the stress gets to be too much, they snap. It's called poor impulse control. They lash out with hideous behavior. Some are physically violent. Others are verbally abusive.

Afterwards they are remorseful and contrite. They promise it will never happen again. They bring their victims gifts and treat them well for a time. Then the cycle begins again.

The worst part for the victim is that the abuser psychologically manipulates the victim into believing it is her or his own fault. "I wouldn't have hit you if you hadn't made me mad." Mind games break down the victim's own self-esteem and leave her or him isolated and dependent on the abuser.

Meanwhile, the abuser is usually wonderful in public and comes off smelling like a rose. Even when the victim confides in friends or family, many times nobody will believe that the abuser could possibly have done these things. "You must be imagining things. It must have been an accident. Just try harder to be a good wife and it won't happen again. He's under a lot of stress, you need to be patient."

Blah blah blah. Thousands of well-meaning relatives, neighbors, ministers, and counselors out there delivering the victim right back into the mouth of the lion. This attitude is especially pervasive among some fundamentalist groups in many religions, where women are taught to be subservient to men.

End of rant. Sorry. This is a hot button issue for me.

I doubt shrub is in control of his administration. For one thing, apparently he is a sodden drunk most of the time. He just tries to control everything, but his life sounds like it is spiralling out of control. Unfortunately he's taking the rest of the world with it!
