5. There's really nothing yet to approve of
This reminds me of the West Wing Episode where they flash back to Bartlet's early days in office and Leo remarks that the President's approval ratings are down from where they were during the transition period when there was nothing to approve of.

6. Actually, with all that's going on re the economy, wars, climate, etc...
...this transition has been a stepped-up effort ~ with several substantial press conferences.

Obama has shown himself to be calm, thoughtful and presidential on these issues, while choosing and announcing his cabinet.

There's been plenty to approve of ~ and more to come this week or next with the energy/environmental announcements.

8. I think you can accurately poll on wheter or not you view Obama favorably
Because I agree that I have a favorable opinion of the things he has done during the transition period. But it's a stretch to translate that into "job approval" since he doesn't officially have the job yet.

10. OP has been watching too much FOX
OP took the' very favorable' 80% and subtracted the 'somewhat unfavorable" 3% to get 77%. This is how FOX operates.

22. Where do you get 77%? Nothing on this table adds up to 77%
You could say that 7% are unfavorable, but there's not a single 77 on this chart.

How odd...

23. Right Wing Conservatives approve too!!
Weeee! Hooray for vague polls and bitter partisans who use them.!

"The new administration is off to a good start."
-- Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell.

"Superb ... the best of the Washington insiders ..."
-- David Brooks, conservative New York Times columnist

"Virtually perfect ... "
-- Senator Joe Lieberman, former Democrat and John McCain's top surrogate in the 2008 campaign.

"Reassuring."
-- Karl Rove, "Bush's brain."

"I am gobsmacked by these appointments, most of which could just as easily have come from a President McCain ... this all but puts an end to the 16-month timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, the unconditional summits with dictators, and other foolishness that once emanated from the Obama campaign ... Clinton and Steinberg at State should be powerful voices for 'neo-liberalism' which is not so different in many respects from 'neo-conservativism.'"
-- Max Boot, neoconservative activist, former McCain staffer.

"I see them as being sort of center-right of the Democratic party."
-- James Baker, former Secretary of State and the man who led the theft of the 2000 election.

"Surprising continuity on foreign policy between President Bush's second term and the incoming administration ... certainly nothing that represents a drastic change in how Washington does business. The expectation is that Obama is set to continue the course set by Bush ... "
-- Michael Goldfarb of the neoconservative Weekly Standard.

"I certainly applaud many of the appointments ... "
-- Senator John McCain

"So far, so good."
-- Senator Lamar Alexander, senior Republican Congressional leader.

Hillary Clinton will be "outstanding" as Secretary of State
-- Henry Kissinger, war criminal

Rahm Emanuel is "a wise choice" in the role of Chief of Staff
-- Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, John McCain's best friend.

Obama's team shows "Our foreign policy is non-partisan."
-- Ed Rollins, top Republican strategist and Mike Huckabee's 2008 campaign manager

"The country will be in good hands."
-- Condoleezza Rice, George W. Bush's Secretary of State

I am firmly On the Left and I "Strongly Approve" of Obama, especially considering the alternative. I would answer this poll accordingly. I also have major objections to the majority of his Cabinet Level appointments.

"Centrism"....because its so EASY.
No thinking required.

Maybe that's the origin of 77%.

especially when so much has happened within that month in reference to the transition.

I think poster looked at the wrong column myself.

I've said often enough in this thread I posted what the link said.

If you want to be nit picky (which you obviously do) I could have put "strongly" like the article does.

and go read the article instead? Cause I'm thinking that the link was just signifying the source of the table you posted. Did I assume less than I should have?

40. If what was important was to read the article, than you would have been better off
copying and pasting those parts you thought were important into the op. As I am not a mind reader, I could not tell that I would "have" to go to the link in order to know where you got your numbers from, considering that I was looking at numbers in the OP. For me, the link only signified the source of the table...not necessarily the key to your headline.

30. The question doesn't ask about "approval" in that chart though.
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 07:32 PM by mwei924
It's favorable vs. unfavorable. So does "somewhat favorable" mean approval or not?

And there's no 77% on that chart.

39. That's the title, but it's not in any given categories.
So if they asked the sample if they have a favorable or unfavorable view of Obama, that's not the same thing as approval. Not to mention, there are various degrees of favorability that may or may not correspond to approve/disapprove. Bad statistics.
