WOW! Everyday it gets weirder and weirder. I agree with her move, but basically we have a Governor holed up in his office refusing to resign and the State of Illinois is taking extraordinary measures to remove him. EVEN IMPEACHMENT is not enough. . .this is crazy.

Madigan to court: Declare Blagojevich unfit
December 12, 2008 at 12:01 PM | Comments (0)

Atty. General Lisa Madigan called on the Illinois Supreme Court today to temporarily remove Gov. Rod Blagojevich from office and appoint Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn as acting governor, "so the business of the state of Illinois can go forward."

Madigan said she wants the court to bar Blagojevich from directing state contracts along with a broad range of state business.

"We think it is very clear he is incapable of serving," Madigan said of the governor during a news conference in downtown Chicago.

She said, "We want to make sure the people of Illinois have a governor who can legitimately fulfill the duties of that office."

One of her goals is to prevent Blagojevich from using his power to appoint a U.S. senator to replace President-elect Barack Obama, who abandoned the seat as he prepares to enter the White House.

3. It seems the move is the fastest way from point A to point B.
Point B being getting him the hell out of office.

4. I don't see it that way. He has lost all of what little support he had,
and because of the severity of the chargers made against him, and total loss of any public trut, he cannot effectively run the State.

I honestly don't think he's mentally ill at all! I think he's simply an arrogant, greedy btd.

5. I'm not complaining, just marveling. . .
. . .my issue is with Rod not Lisa (the AG. . .in Illinois we are all on a first name basis. . .LOL).

6. Using Mental State as cause brings to mind a dark period in
world history.

Could a Democrat not find other reasons for dismissal.

8. The guy has been mentally unfit for months
Everybody in Chicago knows it. I suspect syphilitic dementia. Could be something else, who knows. Maybe he has early Alzheimers. He's lost his shit. You can hear the coded language for this whenever local reporters talk about him. They say stuff like "unpredictable." It's code for "The guy is certifiable." I don't mean this is a colloquial sense, but in a clinical sense.

10. On my msn news page it states:
"Illinois A.G. asks court to declare gov. unfit"

My first thought was.."mentally unstable" but then I already thought that from his words caught on tape. Narcissistic comes to mind.

12. Not a cool move by the AG
Her obvious conflict of interest notwithstanding, there is already a legitimate mechanism for removal (impeacment). This is a clear violation of separation of powers - the last thing we need are unaccountable judges unilaterally removing unindicted public officials.

What did that whole press conference with Fitzgerald signify if not that he was indicted?

19. The charges weren't brought before a grand jury. So, there needs to be a
preliminary hearing. A judge clearly approve the arrest warrant, so there's apparently probable cause. But there needs to be a hearing yet.

14. If you watched her new conference, she denied this insinuation - saying that incapable of serving is
broader than this. She then listed many things he couldn't do. One was that it would be hard for the State to borrow short term money needed because she as the AG has to sign a usually routine statement that among other things states that there are no impending legal charges against the governor - which she obviously can't sign.

Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 02:24 PM by blueladybird
Don't you need to be diagnosed by a qualified physician before you can be labeled as unfit??? How does this work in this case legally? Will they force him to be psychologically analyzed?

17. "unfit" is a legal and political concept here
It's not a medical concept.

You can show someone is unfit for a job just by observing that they cannot perform the job.

20. Why did you? I honestly want someone to explain this to me.
I wasn't in Illinois when he won the first time. I know he ran as a reformer, and I can see how that would've been attractive after Ryan. But by the time I voted in the gubernatorial primary the problems were clear. And by the General, there's no way I could support him. I voted for Rich Whitney.

What did you see that was positive? I don't mean this as an attack or trolling or anything. I'd just like someone to explain why he was re-elected.

21. The first time
He did run as a reformer and was going to clean up the mess George Ryan left behind. I believed him, the second time he was running against Judy Barr Topinka who believe it or not was much worse than Blago, at least that is what it appeared to be at the time. Their was a Dem challenger whose name escapes me (little help here), but he got zero support and faded very quickly. It was a big mistake to vote for him the second time and for that I feel guilty. Sorry DU.
