The single largest political contribution from the Kalamazoo area this election season is a $100,000 donation to America Coming Together, a national organization dedicated to defeating George W. Bush and electing Democrats.

But exactly who wrote that $100,000 check is a mystery.

In a June 30 filing with the Internal Revenue Service, America Coming Together lists the contribution as coming from Partners for Progress, 6749 S. Westnedge, P.O. Box 200, Portage. That correlates to a post office box inside the UPS Store, located in the strip mall that includes the Target store. The IRS filing says the contribution was made June 18.

Beyond that information, there seems to be no clue to the person or persons behind Partners for Progress.

quite a bit more...

How common are these large-sum mystery donations? Has anyone heard of similar things happening? Aside from Republicans and large corporate contributions, I mean.
