reporting, another Virginia Rally- Mt. Vernon Democrats...near Ft. Belvoir
Gigantic OUTDOOR Virginia Rally, for the movers-and-shakers of the Virginia Democratic Party.....

it was the BIGGEST rally EVER for the Mt.Vernon Democrats...a HUGE turnout...lots of great homemade food, AND ice cream, fresh fruit, desserts, wine, lemonade, ice tea, and Virginia ladies in their flowered sun hats, and long skirts....and VETERANS...lots and lots of Veterans....

some of the Veterans had been up at the U.S.Capital earlier in the day...to stand in solidarity against the swift boat liars....yet, bush* and the reTHUGlican congress had the Capital Hill Police confront OUR Veterans, and run them off the public grounds of the American Capital...only the swift boat liars and their paid supporters were allowed to stay on those public grounds (and bush* media C-span broadcast the swift boat liars, saying NOTHING about the police harassing OUR Veterans, who object to the liars, and removing them from OUR Public Land)...OUR Veterans were at Democratic party, complaining about the nazi-bush* running OUR government...everyone VOWED to work harder than ever to BOOT BUSH*.....

soooo...Virginia....the Party was WONDERFUL....even OUR soldiers from Ft. Belvoir were there...turning against the chickenhawk bush*.....the turnout was great, the weather was great, the food was great...

and even more surprises....LOTS of Kerry yard signs are popping up....and...while driving back to Alexandria, several people honked at me, and as I looked in my mirror, they were all holding THUMBS UP for my 7 Democratic bumber stickers on the back of my truck...one whole car-full of soldiers was giving me the THUMBS UP....yes, Virginia...we're voting for KERRY...soon to be the President of the United States....Virginia is a WINNER !!

1. .

i think it's good to be visible in showing support for kerry.

i'm in (safe) nj, but, 'tho i suspect most of my town is largely for kerry, i haven't seen a lot of signage.

recently, i think there's been a "dandelion effect." one kerry sign, two bumper stickers, etc. i think folks are seeing hope when they see kerry signage, and more crop up. in just the past week, i've seen many signs pop up.

i'm especially heartened to hear your tales of pro-kerry sentiment in virginia, however. :)

cheers :)

2. one sign said: "RE-DEFEAT BUSH" ....heheheh.....hey welcome to DU
rookwood...glad you joined us....

why not grab a bumper sticker or a sign and put up YOUR VERY OWN advertisement....it helps others feel good and it gets out the vote...I've become a walking billboard with my "We will KERRY Virginia" t-shirt....often, in the grocery store, I carry my clipboard with voter registration forms, bumper stickers and cards with web sites....it's a hit, lots of people ask me what's going on, and walk away with info, web sites, etc....I have registered over 200 people just saying "hi" in grocery stores....

welcome aboard....:hi:

3. That is fabulous news
It's so great to hear that Virginians are turning out for Kerry. I hope and pray he wins the state. Keep up the great work!

I live in "safe" Maryland where the complacent, lazy Democratic Party leadership are being complete idiots about our electronic Diebold voting machines.

My husband belongs to True Vote Maryland which went to court two weeks ago pleading to have the state force Diebold to have its machines issue paper audit trails. They lost. Pleas to the party leaders have been ignored.

It is now impossible to do recounts in Maryland, and I find it unsettling, especially with a rethug governor. If the Dem leaders weren't so lazy and complacent two years ago, we might have had a Democrat elected governor.

I'll say one thing: if these idiots blow things for Kerry, there will be a major Maryland Democratic party housecleaning starting Nov. 3.

4. thanks for the welcome, amen...

thanks for the welcome, amen... :)

i'm a long time lurker (years and years and years) at tabletalk (salon).

i already have kerry bumpersticker taped to the inside of my rear window, one taped to my front door, and i've been wearing a kerry/edwards t-shirt to the gym. no positive or negative experiences to report re the bumpersticker, but the t-shirt has garnered smiles, hellos, "great shirt!" comments, and also an inquiry as to where i got it (kerrygear.com).

it does feel good to sport the signage.

cheers :)

6. liberalesto, me too :)
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 07:23 PM by rookwood
me too, but it was exit 10/somerset. exit 9 is named something else (now, at least, i know they renamed the exits a little whiles back).

used to live in somerset. :)

edited to add: i'm sorry, you said "turnpike" and i thought you meant "287." exit 10 off 287 is somerset. but, coincidentally, to get to somerset off the turnpike, i also use exit 10.

cheers :)

7. It was a Joe Piscopo joke on Saturday Night Live
years and years ago.

People would say they were from NJ and he would say, "What exit?" meaning the NJ Turnpike.

We lived right outside New Brunswick in Little Hungary for a few years. I also lived in Middlebush and outside Zarephath during my hippie days as a Rutgers student. How about you?

8. oh, i think that joke pre-dates joe piscapo ;)

i lived in somerset. when i worked in plainsboro, i would take south middlebush road to get to work. i think you'd find the area very built up since you've been there. the farms and fields are mostly gone or disappering (alas).

cheers :)

11. At the same time, 15 miles away
There was in indoor rally and training session for Kerry volunteers. Over 1,000 people showed up - from kids to firefighters to an old woman in a wheel chair.

It was great. But we didnt' get the good eats they had at Mount Vernon.

12. welll....I spent Saturday at the VA-Kerry HQ, putting together the

STUFF for the BIG training session....if you help out, sometimes, you get invited to the BIG KIDS events....which is what happened to me....BTW, most of the food at the Mt. Vernon Democrats was HOME-MADE....people just brought in some really great homemade cooking....it was an outdoor, table cloth, and silver, china event....whew...LOTS of big silver punch bowls....but don't forget...they did drop a BIG bunch of money into the DONATIONS box, and that is another important aspect: buying all the campaign materials...signs, shirts, handouts, copies, envelopes...it all costs money.....

that's where all the food comes from at VA-Kerry HQ too....all brought in by VIRGINIA volunteers...

Glad the training went well...Keep up the great work...WE WILL KERRY VIRGINIA...and our 13 electorial votes will KERRY the Nation....this year, Virginia steps out and becomes the leader.....GO VIRGINIA...

14. Well, your report just gives me CHILLS!!! Yessssssssssssssss
Very,very Well Done Virginia!!!

What a fabulous report Amen. Sounds like a thoroughly grand day to boot. :) 'Ladies in their flowered sun hats and long skirts..'

I watched a spokesperson on C-span this morning who is part that rally in DC against Kerry--VVFT?. The man was sitting across the table from a Col. Glass who was not anti-kerry and very indignant with all the lies and hype coming from the "evil group". They nearly came to blows on TV today!! Was very riveting televison for early morning watching.

I'm watching a C-span replay of those pukes right now :puke:
I'm sorry and angry that OUR vets didn't get a place/space to rebut that ugly group because that group so richly deserves it! :nuke:

In any case, your event sounds like it was just the best in a long time and I'm ecstatic! :bounce:
