it'll get people off their butts to go out and vote and not take anything for granted like in 2000.

WE are the ones that have to keep our base believing.. the media certainly isn't going to do it.

I see 10 times more Kerry/Edwards stickers than I do the opponents. I just am not buying that we're 10 points behind.

Even where I live (N TX - work in SW OK) lots of Kerry-Edwards bumper stickers and positive remarks on my anti-Bush bumper stickers. There are some Bush-Cheney stickers, of course, but not as many as I thought there would be.

This weekend there were THREE ass-kicking letters about Bush in our local newspaper. They were bashing Bush BIG TIME!

52. Of course I do. And I'll tell you why.
At his best (the week after his convention), Bush can only manage to run even in some of the closest Gore States (IA/MN/WI/PA/MI). Once his bounce dissipates in-full, we'll pretty much be able to count on those states falling into our column. Sure, the leads Kerry will have won't be wide enough for grand comfort, but they'll be more consistent.

The Gore States total 260EVs. Kerry has maintained a consistent 4 or 5% lead in New Hampshire.

This means that Kerry's Electoral Vote Floor is 264EVs.

He then has a wide variety of states to pick from in getting just six more electoral votes: NV/AZ/CO/MO/AR/TN/VA/WV/NC/OH/FL. In the past month, Kerry has been competetive in each of these states. What's more remarkable is that August was widely considered his roughest month. Pretty sweet, to still be in such good shape.

Next comes our turnout factor. One polling firm finds about 70% of Democrats "excited to vote for our nominee." When that polling firm asked that question in 2000, 35% of Dems voted affirmatively. Considering that Dem turnout in 2000 was pretty nice, I love imagining the correlating turnout this year!
(more reason for hope: that same poll finds Dems more motivated that GOPers to GOTV!)

But there's more in terms of turnout! We have Howard Stern back on the air in multiple key states. Each and every weekday morning, he's on the radio finding creative and convincing ways to criticize the Chimp. If he can stimulate 1/5th the effect that Governor Ventura had in these battlegrounds, that might make the difference, sending thousands of usual non-voters into the polls on our behalf.

Then we see Fahrenheit 9/11 coming-out on DVD. I can bet good money that we'll see Bush take a dip in the polls in the week after that - it's already happened earlier this summer when the movie hit theatres. And considering that relatively few people saw the movie this summer, imagine millions-upon-millions more seeing it in the weeks before the election! Icing on the F9/11 cake? About 40% of Republicans who saw the movie viewed it positively. Hopefully we can milk this film for one or two percent at the polls.

And finally in terms of turnout, we have an unprecedented GOTV operation going on right now. There's a huge hip-hop tour going around the country right now; they managed to register over 100k new voters in Saint Louis alone! Add the gigantic efforts of Americans Coming Together, organized labor, and MoveOn.. this is going to be impressive, to say the least.

I also find great hope in the cardinal rule where undecideds vote for the challenger. I know, people like to say that "things are different in the Age of Terror", but we also forget that undecideds have already factored fear into their calculations.. and they're still undecided. Recently, they've gone 4 or 3-to-1 in favor of the challenger; should Kerry get a mere 3-to-2 edge, his chances of winning in a nearly-tied race JUMP.

Then there are the damn national beauty contest polls. People like to fret at seeing our man supposedly down 5 or 6%, but most remember an important lesson from 2000: you can win the race without getting the most votes. This is still fresh in voters' minds; they see the important state-by-state polls staying close, and their sense of hope stays alive much longer with the 2000 knowledge.

Going more with the national polls is the polling firms' tendency to underestimate Democratic turnout in their studies. This was well-demonstrated in 2000 when, being consistently down by a few points in the pre-Election Day polls, Gore actually won popularly. Nationally, the polling firms' reputations has taken a heavy hit.. and for this good reason. Cell phones, internet connections, economic disparity, phone answering services, caller ID.. I've worked at the Gallup Poll - it all adds to uncertainty. They'll never admit it, but you'd be shocked at the self-filtering and refusal rates.

...

So yes, I am optimistic. We've been through a bit of a shitstorm in the past month, and yet, we can still smell victory within reach. It's only 6 electoral votes and 50 days away. We can do this! :bounce:

But my sentiments are with you and I sure hope that your faith isn't misplaced. We just need to do whatever we are capable of doing to make this thing happen, and that includes John Kerry, who has to take on the opposition, gloves off, since they continue to hit him below the belt, or even lie, if they have to.:grr:

As long as they can keep up with the Intelligent, On Topic, Issue-Oriented offensive questions directed at Bush, they will win. Edwards was BRILLIANT today when he said now that Powell has once again said there is no 9/11-Iraq connection, from this day forward, they have to stick to that - inferring that they can NO LONGER call the Iraq War part of the War on Terra. There is NO CONNECTION. Brilliant wording, excellent office. Great Job John E!!

105. CAREFUL! Let's not wake up those sleeping Republicans!
They think that Bush is going to win because most polls still show him leading. Let them continue to believe that, and they may not steal the votes as aggressively as they did four years ago! Here is a little secret: the pollsters are playing along, so that we will get a more honest election this time. So let's keep it to ourselves for now, and see how surprised the Republicans are when Kerry wins!

120. If we have a clean election, yes, Kerry will win.
And from what I understand Kerry has lawyers is every state ready for anything the Repugs might try to pull, so let's hope it works out for them the way it worked out for that Lapore woman in Florida. God, it would be sweet justice if they were actually caught trying to steal the election - things would change in America in that instance.

"In my county, MORE Democrats voted in the primary than Repubs. And I'm in Texas."

I live in a repug area (for a few more days anyways), and in the primares the Dem line was around the block while the Repub line was like one or two people.

Turnout will make the difference, and the liberal side is more "ginned up" this year.

So, this means the RW media has to demoralize us in order to get us not to vote and get involved.

Don't let that happen.

Shut off the cable news.

We WILL take back the Senate! Domestic issues such as bushCorp's shit economy/unemployment/deficit/job outsourcing, endless assaults on the environment and civil rights, grossly unfair tax cuts and Corporate bias, forced melding of church & state, etc. will have a far greater impact on Senate & House voting than at the Presidential level.

And remember - one of the most difficult acts to pull off in private or public life is the constant juggling of a MULTIPLE set of LIES. bushCorp is attempting to maintain the largest set of lies to the largest number of people in the history of America, and it will continue to unravel for the next 7 weeks.

He will win, and because people will be practically staking out the polling places to make sure they don't cheat, he won't have his election stolen. We've learned from 2000, and in 2004, Bush et al will not be able to steal the election quietly. The juggernaut that is the people has been woken, and it will not go to sleep again. Kerry will win with a landslide!

Jeez, DU used to be the place to spat amongst ourselves, but the last few days of freeper invasion will probably do more to unite us than anything else!

Do you know ANYONE who voted for Gore in 2000 and will now be voting for bush? Don't you know at least a few people who DIDN'T vote in 2000, but are determined to vote in November? Case closed (though everyone has to get off their ass and off their computer and get people out to vote).

155. I handed out yard signs last night!
I am small town iowa and we had 12 people on our list for last night. I stopped at a few houses of people I know to be Dems and we got sent to 6 more houses of their friends and relatives. We were stopped on the street and asked for more Kerry signs. The people that we talked to are very conservative but they were pissed off and we talked a lot. The war was not the main point of discussion on our stops. The general consesus was the US can't trust this commander and thief GWB. I had a great weekend!

Side story- After a football game this weekend I was reaming out a group of republicans on various issues at a local beer garden and this man sat down. The thugs I was talking to knew him and said hey rambis there is another democrat for you. I asked him what he did. He said he was a federal judge. I asked him what he thougth of the P-Act and he just smiled shook his head. I asked him what article of the Patriot Act Dick Cheney was in violation of when he spoke in Des Moines this week. He proceeded to tell the group what article and how Cheney incited fear etc etc etc. I have never had an expert at my disposal in a political discussion before I hope it happens like that again sometime.

164. I do too
there are so many reasons why...but I had been gone all weekend and missed some of my "news" shows..but coming back yesterday..sounds like Kerry and Edwards are calling the bushies OUT on the Al-Qaeda/Saddam link...they are hammering him on the assault weapons ban, the shit that went down in N.Korea...they will be calling him out on that..and the mess we have in Iraq that doesn't seem to have an end in sight..

we do have liberal media now...as in AAR and things like that to get a message out...we have NEWLY interested voters that want to make a change that are not counted in polls...many repubs that think Bush is completely wrong for this country and can't take 4 more years of his shenanigans...too much has gone on under this guys watch...more people want him out than want him in...

I have a good feeling but if you pay attention to all the "news" they will never admit that this guy is in big big trouble...and Nov 2nd even though they report a close race or a winnable race for * they will be surprised to find the tables have turend and all those * supporters that didn't feel like they needed to vote since he would win so handidly...will be sitting there wondering why the news said he would win...
