Bush Flip Flops on Assault Weapons Ban
NPR reported this morning that in 2000/2001 Bush voiced support for renewing the assault weapons ban. Now he has refused to ask Congress to bring the bill for a vote. He can always say that it never came up but all he had to do was ask House radical conservatives to bring it to a vote so he could sign it into law.

This bill has widespread support in virtually every group except the NRA.

9. The only place he is to be found
is sucking up to a huge special interest group so that he can get their endorsement. He's in the one place he is to be found consistently--the cesspool of K Street.

2. But he says he will sign it if it is passed which it won't be
because he doesn't want it to be. :eyes:

Here comes the blaming the Republican lead Congress for not passing it.

5. Luckily it's a radical conservative congress
Tom Delay said that he doesn't follow public opinion polls and that's why he wouldn't let it come up for a vote. Apparently he only follows the money...

3. Kerry's first order of business in office

(and I hope to hell so see him in office) will have to be fixing this particular snafu of W's. There are certain things that no one in the general public could possibly have use for. I can't believe Bush has the gall to say he has our best interests at heart.

8. Isn't the AK47 fully automatic?
I saw a user manual for the AK47 that said it shot 100 rounds per minute on full automatic. Aren't fully automatic weapons already banned? I see no use for them.

13. NPR had an audio clip of John Ashcroft this morning
during the senate confirmation hearings and he was quoted as saying that it was his understanding that President Bush was for extending the assault weapons ban and that as Attorney General he would gladly do whatever the President asked him to do in regards to the ban.

No exact Bush quotes but there has to be something in his stump speeches from 2000 if you can find them.

Bill Frist says it is the will of the American people to let it expire.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ideas_opinions/story/231440p-198730c.html

"I think the will of the American people is consistent with letting it expire, so it will expire," Frist said in his gentle bedside tone.
The will of the American people? A recent poll showed that 71% of Americans want the ban extended. Even 64% of gun owners favor the ban.
