Real Smear Boat Talking Point: "Vets Mad at Kerry"
People keep trying to argue facts. Dumb. The news media is telling us "people want to MOVE ON" from the Vietnam War as if the shills are doing it because of their bias. That's not the problem -- we aren't fighting fire with fire because we keep THINKING logically -- and that isn't how we are going to win this election. (Its insulting, but true.)

We are missing their point:

The Smear Boats got their shots in BEFORE the public was sick of the topic. Didn't matter whether they were true or not because the talking point is/was "Vets Mad at Kerry." Now the AWOL stuff comes up, but everyone is like, "well, so what? That was 35 years ago."

The talking point is Vets Mad at Kerry NOW. AWOL is Old News.

The spin for AWOL stuff is, "Is It True? Are the documents legitimate?" The spin for Smear Boats is, "Why are you so angry?"

"Angry" doesn't need documentation. "AWOL" does.

Opinions? Suggestions? Fixes? Anyone?

1. Considering the story about his commander...
Ordering one of the Swift Boats to attack unarmed fishing boats, while he was out on what amounted to a "joy ride" and having the captain of the boat countermand the order and send the commander below decks, I would have to say that some of them are angry at Kerry for exposing the crimes they were committing.

Frankly, I have never heard any grunts going off on Kerry. They knew what was going on.

2. In the guise of fairness, demonstrable lies of the swiftie variety are
accorded equivalency with TANG items after swifty lies have drawn blood. No concern for the truth. Just a generalized, dismissive "they're both doing it." Fairness? Hardly!

3. Maybe we need to start saying stuff like "Are YOU on drugs?"
when the news media makes some of their more outrageous claims. Personally, I am in the scared to pieces camp that this (at best) recovering alcoholic, ex-drug using paranoid schizophrenic guy has the keys to our nuclear arsenal. I'm not meaning to be cruel here, but yes, I've got relatives with drug problems, and I dated a recovering alcoholic in my youth. All of them are "NICE PEOPLE" but handing them the KEYS TO OUR NUCLEAR ARSENAL is NOT something I would EVER consider doing!!!

4. Summer Soldiers and Sunshine Patriots Against Kerry
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 09:06 AM by DemoTex
Most real "combat" vets, are NOT mad at Kerry. REMFS, Summer Soldiers, and Chicken-hawks, however, might be pissed. They tend to be uncomfortable around the real thing.

On edit - Sorry, I should define REMFS: Rear-Eschelon-Mother-Fuckers.
