I am not going to beat the shit out of Obama for this because I think he had good intentions and was thinking more about reaching out and finding common ground with someone a lot of people considered a "Moderate" religious right idiot and failed to think through the civil rights angle. I would suggest he put a gay person on his cabinet to help him see things he might miss in their struggle. After all, he said he is all for having lots of views to help him see what he might miss. I am not sure he thought this through that well and could have used a gay person's advise on the issue. Maybe the gay person's advise would have been to go ahead with Warren but at least he would be able to say he consulted with someone who was gay. Having seen the above video I would think Obama (if he saw it too) would be wondering what he was thinking because Warren is clearly a huge homophobic idiot. There are good points on both sides of this issue if we just take the time to open up our minds and try to see both sides of the issue.

The video helps me understand the rage toward Warren better than I had before. That being said, I hope those in the gay and lesbian community also try to understand that for many people who are not gay, because we don't have the personal stakes in this fight, we are more willing to give Obama a pass because we think he is trying to change peoples hearts by reaching out. It's not that we are against you but we also kind of see what Obama was trying to do even if he may have tripped a little in the process. I feel a lot of DUers are talking passed one another on an issue we mostly agree on and that the bickering is more about how big this issue is to us personally and its hard to turn against Obama who shares most of our values. I also think most of us agree that Gay Marriage should be legal. If you don't then I would be very interested in hearing how you came to that conclusion?

While I forgive Obama and understand his motives, Warren is a huge ass in my book. Fuck Him!

over this. I think they should keep Warren because it would look like he made a mistake and then enrage the Evangelicals beyond belief, creating a very thick wall between them. But an apology for any hurt done to the gay and lesbian community is certainly in order.
