I have no doubt I'll get flamed, but it has to be said.
We've been laughing at and jumping on the cons for taking what is a clerical error on Kerry's DD-214, and saying it's a forgery.

Well, I looked at the old Bush campaign flyer over and over, and I don't see it as a lie, when it says Bush was in the Air Force and Guard.

It looks more to me like simply someone goofed.
Maybe just the guy who typed out the campaign flyer, maybe Bush himself, it's obvious how easily confused he gets.

So this screaming "It's a Bush lie! It's a Bush lie!" makes DU look hypocritical.

1. That's not a typo
That's a lie.

A lie that Bush defended in 1999.

Actually, isn't the bigger lie when it states
that he became an 'independent' businessman and an oil and gas 'producer'.

He was NEVER either of those things.

he was independent from any sense of responsibility or accountability.

27. He's a typical worthless punk who padded his resume
That's what this is, and I think there are a lot of people out there who realize it, especially since there are so many out there who padded their own resumes. That's why this one's a tempest in a teapot.

However, his shirking of his Guard responsibilities goes right to the heart of this man's character, and it's not good. The lack of consequences is an indictment of a corrupt system, and demonstrates for once and for all that the whole system is rigged against honest working people in favor of dishonest rich punks.

Let go of the padded resume. Keep hammering this man on his deception regarding his character. He ran on impeccable character. He can be defeated by exposing it.

3. the difference
a typo is an inadvertent mistake. You can't BY MISTAKE type "US Airforce"
That is a deliberate act.
Or simply stated, A LIE

11. I didn't say it was a typo
I said it was a mistake.

Remember, this campaign flyer was from the time when Bush was sloshed most of the time.
So the person who typed it out heard Drinky Bunnypants slurring about his time in the service, and typed out what he could best understand.

We still need to nail the SOB on the memos, showing how Bunnypants got preferential treatment in the TANG.

This flyer looks like a simple mistake.

23. It was no mistake
when you've been in the Guard, you don't claim you've been in the regular military. They are not one and the same and Bush knows it. Karen Hughes' weak explanation of the claim, disputed as flat wrong by many, is even more evidence that they knew it was a lie and printed it anyway.

12. Considering the propaganda that chim
has employed thus far I allow him no margin for errors of this kind. This is one of the most effective tactics of the propagandist... Float false information that gets into the subconscious of the public and then write it off as a mistake while capitalizing on the false impression it's made.

Never trust a Fascist to make clerical errors where gaining power is conscerned

13. I thought I was the only one who figured this out.
Even if it is a lie, this is hardly a big weapon to use against Team Bush. This boils down to nothing more than a misstep on a campaign flyer, and I just hope the Freepers aren't laughing at us. Simply put, this is small stuff, a drop in the bucket at best.

15. Then why was Bush still saying it in 1999?
His book "A Charge to Keep" repeats the error that he was "in the Air Force" for over 600 days. How many times and over what period of time does a man have to make the same error, and let it stand uncorrected, for it to pass over into the realm of a lie?

19. I think the flyer by itself is ineffective,
but maybe someonr should do an ad in which this flyer is linked to the reference in his book, and then close it out with his "pretending to be a fighter pilot" theatrics, on the deck of the U.S.S Abraham Lincoln.

22. Which is why I cited Shrubbie's autobiography
It's one thing to have a "typo" in campaign literature from the late 1970s -- a typo that, just coincidentally, leaves voters with a far more favorable impression of the candidate -- but quite another to write your political autobiography 20 years later, and include the exact same typo.

I think that is evidence enough that it's not a typo, it's a lie designed to make the candidate look better.

they thought quite a bit about it. I could see if they had just put AF thinking that TANG was technically AF. But they put both indicating they knew there was a difference.

There are two other glaring misnomers in that flyer. It says that * attended public schools when in truth he went to an Ivy league prep school (either Andover or St. Paul's-I forget which one) in New England. Also it describes him as a "producer" of Gas & Oil. Excluding the hot air out of his mouth, the earth produces those resources, but use of that word suggests that he was successful in those businesses which couldn't be further from the truth.

on edit- It also says he "became an independent businessman", when he was completely beholden to his father's cronies and the Saudi's.
