Wanna fluster a pro-life Republican? (Ohio)
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 12:51 PM by Bullshot
Where I live, pro-life Republicans make up at least 90% of the population. When you try to engage in a civil conversation about the political parties, they usually get belligerent and that's the end of that.

What I've been doing in recent conversations is ask these people if they voted for Bob Taft in the 2002 gubernatorial elections. Being good Republicans and pro-lifers, they answer, "Of course!" Then, they want to get into another character assassination over Taft's opponent. Then, I tell them that Taft's running mate for lieutenant governor, Jeanette Bradley, is pro-choice (fact). (In Ohio, you cast one vote for both the governor and lieutenant governor.)

Then, you tell them that they actually cast their vote for a pro-choice public official. Then, stand back, because their heads usually explode after stuttering and stammering for a few seconds.

This also goes to show how little people really read up on the candidates they vote for. All they do is vote the party. The candidate they vote for can literally rob them blind, but by golly, they're pro-life and Republican, so I'm voting for them.

1. I really don't get it.
It's the only explanation I can imagine as to how *Liar has any kind of chance at winning this election. How could anyone spend 10 minutes perusing his political record and still vote for the douche bag?

locate "R", pull lever.

I just realized that with an automatic car transmission, by selecting "R" you go backward, but "D" you go forward. How ironic...

5. Now that has possibilities: R = reverse, D= forward
Great observation bushbash!

11. Thanks, 'Loretta'
Sometimes I encounter a moment of lucidity, but it usually evaporates pretty quickly.

12. Not a Loretta fan
but my dad is a retired coalminer. I grew up in a very pro-union household and took my user name as a tribute to him. Have a good Monday, the 13th!:hi:

13. I'm not a fan either, but whenever
I see 'coalminersdaughter', I think of Loretta Lynn. My parents wore that album out when I was a kid. I think I may need therapy...

8. Brilliant!
"I just realized that with an automatic car transmission, by selecting "R" you go backward, but "D" you go forward. How ironic..."

Of course that probably has something to do with the blatant liberal bias of the car manufacturers...

10. LOL!
Wait a minute! The oil companies and car companies are reichwing sappies, how could this be? Maybe it's a subliminal message from some Dem engineers being held in cells and forced to create inefficient engines that keep us consuming petroleum products!

2. I love to remind my fellow Buckeyes that
We have a republican, president, senate, congress, governor, state senate and state legislature. Then follow that up with their special interest and ask why haven't they done something about abortion, gay marriage, tort reform, etc. While they are stammering around for an answer, I suggest that they fire the people they elected and vote Democratic because at least the Democrats tell them the truth about issues.

4. Geez, Toledo is almost as bad as
Suth'un A-HIGH-ah for RW holy-roller content. I wonder why that is - it seems like only the Northeastern quadrant of Ohio, beginning with Columbus and moving NE, including places like Lorain, Cleveland (and all of it's suburbs), Akron, Canton, etc. is down with K/E and the rest of this state wishes it was "paht o' the deep sowth, away fum those lib'rul ev'lushunist cawh-mee heethuns".

Thankfully, this quadrant is also the most densely populated part of Ohio. Unfortunately, the reason we keep getting governors like Taft is because of the developmentally arrested still being allowed to vote.

7. Making abortion illegal...Will only end "legal" abortions.
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 01:13 PM by JohnnyRingo
If young "Suzy Mae" is pregnant out of wedlock in a small town, then has an unfortunate miscarriage, will she be investigated for murder by the local Barney Fife?

Sorry for getting off topic and "preaching to the choir", but my mother was real big on abortion rights in the '60s. (for the sake of women's lives lost during back room coat hanger procedures)

Still, I use my reply heading as my argument against the "pro-lifers".

BTW...I live in Ohio too. Thanx for info I was unaware of.
I can use it.

14. Ask them why Roe v Wade hasn't been overturned
Conservative Republicans control the White House, the Supreme Court, and both Houses of Congress.

What's the holdup? If Republicans really wanted to make abortion illegal, they would have done it by now.

Ask your neighbors that question.
