Bush Calls Kerry Health Plan Bureaucratic Nightmare

By David Morgan

MUSKEGON, Mich. (Reuters) - President Bush derided Democrat John Kerry's plan for reforming health care on Monday as a bureaucratic nightmare and contended it would cost $1.5 trillion.

At a campaign forum in the battleground state of Michigan, the Republican incumbent blasted the Democratic presidential nominee for devising what he called "a government takeover of health care with an enormous price tag" that could be financed only through tax hikes.

"I'm running against a fellow who's got a massive, complicated blueprint to have our government take over the decision-making in health care," Bush told thousands of supporters in a Muskegon aircraft hangar.

"Not only is his plan going to increase the power of bureaucrats in your lives, but he can't pay for it unless he raises your taxes."

The president cited statistics from an "independent study" by the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank that put the 10-year cost of Kerry's health care plan at $1.5 trillion, well ahead of the 10-year, $900 billion estimate widely cited by the Democratic campaign......The Kerry campaign quickly fired back at Bush, saying the AEI report was fraught with questionable assumptions and double-counting and produced by a think thank with ties to Vice President Dick Cheney, whose wife Lynne works for the group. <snip>

3. As opposed to the Bush plan
Which is that he has all the health care coverage he'll ever need, and why didn't the rest of you have your daddy buy the Supreme Court to install you as president, too?

6. Wait a minute
Could the bureaucracy get worse than it is now? My health care plan is incomprehensible. I lived in Europe for many years and used the national health care plans there -- simple, cheap, easy to use, doctor friendly. Private companies are often even more bureaucratic than governments.

7. Says * who was boosting Health Savings Accounts today.
Which is a scam that doesn't help the poor get access to health care and just provides another tax-shelter to the wealthy.

9. Oh okay but privatized Soc. Security will be a breeze right?
Will participants have to call a govt. stock broker or will they get to go through their own who will then have to record all of the treansactions with the ever streamlined SS dept.?
