1. the subject has come up repeatedly today

on CNN and MSNBC, but only the so called 'forgeries' are discussed, nothing about the content. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

5. Hope you have your rabies shots...
Call me an optimist but it seems to me like the anti-Bush intelligensia have recently gone very low profile. Something's gonna break. This is a game of surges. Whoever has the last big surge wins.

2. Is there some reason that 60min. has to say anymore. Best to leave
it alone until there is proof it is a forgery. We all know it is not and the ones that wants to believe it is will always believe it is.

3. I agree - 60 min/Rather need say nothing - the RW nuts at ABC need
to prove error - not just assert it.

14. The RW nuts don't have to prove anything to be damaging
all they have to do is keep repeating their venom often enough and loudly enough and people will believe them. We should have learned that from the Swift Boat Liars. Dan Rather has the platform to defend his stance most powerfully.

10. Hell, I don't expect 60 min. to say more in defense of the memos. I'm
talking about follow up with fresh new facts and their implications. I mean, all the memos did was open up a pandora's box of questions. This is an ongoing thing, right? That was the impression Rather gave me.

4. If it were a forgery
then why did the White House release identical documents shortly after CBS?

9. CBS gave the documents to the White House
the White House gave the documents to the press after the 60 minutes showing. They did not come from the White House.

6. Here's another shoe dropping in this one...
Bush's violation of the rules was EVEN WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT. This is a BIG honking story. At this point, I'll give the GOP the CBS memos if they want 'em - who cares if they're real now. USNews, known to be a conservative-leaning magazine, has just come up with indepdendent evidence showing Bush shirked EVEN MORE of his National Guard duty than we thought, that the White House lied about it, and that there is no explanation for how Bush could reasonably get an honorable discharge

7. Jason Blair fall out ...
all sources, unless identified, are suspect. Rather's unimpeachable sources are no better than regular sources and thus no better than no sources unless he tells us who they are.

Blair and the New York Times have done irreparable damage to all journalists.

8. Isn't it odd that the 2 new docs are being ignored?
USA Today has them on their site, yet none of the bobble heads have acknowledged their existence. It's like they don't even know they are out there. I'm hoping Dan Rather talks about them tonight.

11. He should just stick to his story and tell the bloggers to go to hell.
God only knows what the truth is anymore. But to admit now that these are forgeries would hand the GOP an election.

12. Bullshit.
You sound like you believe the lies, or at least believe that they worked. They are lies and they didn't work. It's coming.

13. I don't know the truth about the memos.
There are experts on both sides. I don't drink anybody's cool-aid. There are good arguments for and against the authenticity of these documents. I don't know if we'll ever know for sure one way or the other. So, be that as it may, Rather should stick to his guns and tell everyone to fuck off.

19. You're not paying attention
if you think all arguments have been sqashed. I suggest reading something besides DU every once and a while. The bottom line is this, until someone produces a document that looks like the CBS doc using a typewriter from that era, this issue is still wide open.
