Anyone have info on Wes Clark's "Band of Sisters" ?
I just heard on Wisconsin Public Radio that Wes Clark is visiting the state tomorrow to have a town hall meeting with a group of wives of men fighting Bush's Iraq War. They are going to speak out against the war. Calling it the "Band of Sisters" and it is going to other battleground states. Commercials too, funded by a 527 Wes has organized.

This is great news. The General has opened a new front on Bushco.

Anyone have details, web info etc?

2. I know one of the women
She started a Military Families for Peace group here in Madison. Her son is a Blackhawk Commander in Iraq now, and she has committed herself to fighting for peace and for Kerry's election.

She actually is an original Kerry supporter, though Clark was her #2 man and she always has had great things to say about him. I am looking forward to hearing what she thinks of General Clark after meeting him. I know he will knock her socks off. :loveya:

5. Hush your mouth!!!!
He is too!

LOL!

Great idea. Wes Clark walking points. Too bad Pompous Holbrooke said that he, Holbrook, has a lock on the SOS position. Shouldn't he be doing more, if that's the case?

Don't want Wes Clark being "used" up and then set aside. That's what a lot of these "political" types tend to do, you know.

6. Holbrooke actually said HE was going to be SOS???
Why would he think that? Is he spending every waking moment trying to get Kerry elected? :grr:

8. Yep...
Holbrooke tells anyone who listens that it will be his job...that he has it in the bag. I suggest that he starts hustling a bit more....or else, there won't be a job for him to have.

That's why everyone keeps pushing Clark for SOD....which he can't be.

Typical of someone like Kerry.....not to given Wes Clark any indication that he might be in the cabinet. Can't Kerry do anything right? So far, I ain't seeing it.

Here's what Wes says about his prospects. I don't think he would be saying this if Kerry had given him a heads up. Kerry, Kerry, Kerry....what in the hell are you thinking? The "great closer" excuse that I keep hearing better become a fact like soon!

Clark not considering joining Kerry
( Air Date: 9/13/2004 )

Retired Army General Wesley Clark all but ruled out being considered
for a high-ranking government position if former Democratic rival John
Kerry is elected president. Clark said he doesn`t see any position for
himself in the administration. The Little Rock resident and former
NATO supreme allied commander said he`s not even considering a
Cabinet-level position. He said he`s in the private sector right now
and he likes it. With impeccable military credentials and poll numbers
suggesting he could beat President Bush, Clark, a political neophyte,
launched his late-starting campaign for the Democratic president
nomination in September 2003. He abandoned the cause less than four
months later amid campaign missteps and weak showings in primary races.

9. What a shame that that great mind may not be in the Kerry administration.
Unbelievable actually.

I'm biting my tongue until after the election and then I ain't holdin' back my words.

That's just too sad for words.

Preach it, sister.

Nobody is owed a fucking job, you earn it. Now, when it's important. Clark isn't living off his glory days in Kosovo, he is out there working his ass off to get these maniacs out of office and put Kerry in. If Holbroke doesn't understand the importance of this election, how our we supposed to trust his judgement of priorities as SOS? Unless Holbrooke is his own priority...

7. Those LUCKY sisters!
This is an excellent idea! Wes is the perfect man to have a town hall meeting with them. I remember <sigh> his first town hall meeting in NH....It's the reason I change my support from Dean to Wes. It's the PERFECT platform for him....well, ANY platform is good for that man, but he's in his element in a town hall meeting. He's so real. So sincere and you can see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. <sigh> I miss him so. :(

If you're near the town hall meeting, DON'T MISS IT!

14. Kick Off event is TODAY!!
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 10:40 AM by hf_jai
The kick-off event with the General is TODAY, at 2:30 (local time?) at the Campus Center of St Norbert College, De Pere WI. All you folks in Visconsin, esp in the Green Bay area, hop in your cars NOW.

From the homepage at http://www.winbackrespect.org/

Gen. Wesley Clark Launches "Band of Sisters" Tour

Today in Wisconsin, Gen. Wes Clark will launch Win
Back Respect’s “Band of Sisters” tour. The Band of
Sisters is a courageous group of women from around
the country who have come together to speak out about
the Bush foreign policy and its impact on their lives.
Come and hear their message.

The launch event—a town hall meeting with Gen. Clark—
will be held at 2:30 Campus Center, St. Norbert College,
De Pere, Wisconsin. All are welcome.

And from http://www.winbackrespect.org/bandofsisters/index.html

Win Back Respect’s Band of Sisters is a courageous
group of military wives and mothers from around the
country who have come together to speak out about
the Bush foreign policy and its impact on their lives.
The Band of Sisters don’t just want their husbands
and sons home—they want America to get Iraq right,
and they’ve lost faith in George Bush to do that.
Gen. Wes Clark launched the Band of Sisters tour on
September 14 in Green Bay, Wisconsin and over the next
six weeks the Sisters will take their message to other
battleground states including Iowa, New Hampshire and
New Mexico. Contribute now to get their ads on the air
in the states they visit!

There are also links to their ads and statements from individual members. Well worth checking out and kicking in some cash.

Just fwiw, when I asked the folks at WesPAC about winbackrespect.com, they said that the General had been discussing doing a speaking engagement for them, but that he was not directly associated with the organization, that he couldn't be because of his association with the Kerry campaign. This must be what they were talking about.

15. This is good. This is very good.
"Gen. Wes Clark launched the Band of Sisters tour on

battleground states including Iowa, New Hampshire and
New Mexico."

They are virtually guaranteed to get local press coverage every time they stage an event in a swing state. Way to go!

19. thanks for clearing up Wes's role in this thing
The WPR news report said the organization was a 527 run by Wes. Looks like they got that part of the story wrong.

18. Clark on CNN Inside Politics today?
Just heard it in one of the Clark groups. 3:00 to 4:30 EDT. I would imagine it will be about the "Band of Sisters" and this rally.
