3. Yes, I heard that he missed the filing deadline
but that the Dems weren't going to do anything about it.

I don't see why a group of concerned citizens, ie us, can't file our own complaint with the Florida Secretary of State?

5. YES, he did miss a deadline
But apparently democrats are not going to challenge it.
Couldn't anybody else challenge it?

11. It should be challenged, that would take Florida away from them
They played by dirty tricks 4 years ago and will not hesitate to do the same this year.
Someone should challenge this and get it started NOW!
Don't give them a chance, they will stomp on us and then kick us into the gutter.

jeb fixed it for him though, just like jeb fixed it for ralph. Blatant partisan maneuvering is the phrase being used. At least jeb is consistent. :grr:

The state Supreme Court is being asked to decide whether Ralph Nader will be on the Florida ballot as the Reform Party candidate.

The 1st District Court of Appeals, which had been asked to render its opinion on Nader's presence on the ballot, cancelled a hearing Monday and asked the state high court to take the case immediately. The Supreme Court, which almost certainly would have been asked to review any decision the 1st DCA issued, did not immediately say if it would step in now.

A trial judge last week issued a temporary order to stop the state from certifying Nader's place on the ballot. Circuit Judge Kevin Davey concluded that Democrats have a good chance of winning their case against Nader, who many say took votes from former Vice President Al Gore in Florida four years ago, costing him the White House.

The Florida Democratic Party and four voters backed by the Ballot Project are suing to keep Nader off the ballot. They argue that the Reform Party is no longer a legitimate national party and that Florida election laws requiring minor candidates to qualify by petition or through a nominating convention weren't followed.

17. The Nader name is easier to challenge and may act as a precedent
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 09:46 PM by Julian English
If Nader stays on Bush stays on. The attack on Nader is more procedural rather than just statute of limitations. The Secretary of State of Florida says the statute of limitations for filing applies only to electors, not to candidates. The Democrats are not challenging this tenous argument.

The argument against the Reform party is that the Reform Party is a sham. Consequently, if Nader qualifies, the filing date argument is not sufficient nor are the other arguments.

19. I see your point however I am of the mind that Fla (under Jebbie) is
going to be stolen electronically so it is my contention that if there must be a Bush* write in then there must also be a voter verifiable paper ballot. Do you see my point?

21. Interestingly, Bush also failed to meet the filing deadline in Illinois
This was because the Republicans held their convention after the deadline for submitting the candidate. Nevertheless, the Democratically controlled state government voted to allow W on the ballot. I have not compared the Illinois and Florida statutes. It would be interesting to see.

20. Not likely
Jeb Bush is now Nader's best friend. He got Nader on the ballot after judge ruled Nader shouldn't be on the ballot. Maybe Greens could sue?
