Nixon Inauguration memory...

I was in grad school at George Washington University and lived in Foggy Bottom just a few blocks from the White House. There were troops with guns on almost every corner in my neighborhood and there were troops positioned on the roof of my apartment building. I remember being jarred by this and thinking that these guys were protecting the President from his countrymen. This was almost 40 years ago...what will DC look like on the 20th?

But I think Obama is a lot more popular than Nixon ever was, even in 1968-69 Nixon wasn't exactly a popular guy.

But, of course, it only takes one or two nuts with guns to ruin the event.

I am crossing my fingers for his family for the next 8 years, and for all the rest of us, too.

2. Was this the '69 Inauguration or '73?

3. For the second inaugural, my mom and I went to demonstration

on the beach and got buzzed by some nice military helicopters. God bless America!
