Who has benefited from the perception the facts that Bush was suspended and campaigned for someone instead of showing up for duty are all based on forgeries?

This isn't some damned game. The Swift Boat guys were bullshitting, and they got busted. They were attempting to deceive the American people.

If CBS is bullshitting, or got duped, then America needs to know that, too.

The Republicans are still somehow in this race because they are masters at picking the ant shit from the pepper. Asking the question "are the memos authethic" is the perfect foil for the real, uncontestable fact: that John Kerry served his country in Vietnam while the President, who claims he's a "war President," did not.

It's too bad they had the chance to ask that question. But now that it has been asked, it needs to be answered, and the Democrats need to align themselves on the honest side of the answer.

Because if we endorse dishonesty as a tool in our cause, we risk becoming every bit as ignorant, pliable, and untrustworthy as our opponents.

I think we can all agree that this attack on John Kerry’s honor simply reeks with a horrible odor. Indeed, I’ve always said that an arse by any other name smells the same. In this case, the arse belongs to one Karl Rove, Senior Political Advisor to President Bush. You know how detectives look for the “smoking gun”? The “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” fall into this category. They and legions of fellow veterans refuse to accept that almost 59,000 comrades in arms died in vain because their government sent them to fight and die in a senseless war, a war that left thousands upon thousands of their comrades physically and psychologically maimed for life.

That is why they hate John Kerry.
