I cannot understand the zealous defense of CBS on this issue. There have been documents obtained by the Boston Globe last week and US News the other day pertaining to *'s record that would have gotten a lot more traction were it not for them slipping into the mud of whether CBS's documents are authentic or not. We know key factors that at least call into question why CBS should have issued a counter proviso to their report were that these aren't original documents, the family of Killian didn't provide them, and they weren't obtained through official government channels. I don't know for sure if they are real or fake, but I do know they are a sideshow that has allowed * to not address stories from other news organizations in the past week, and no doubt going forward, that legitimately question whether * served honorably. The best way CBS could settle this is to bring in an outside ombudsman to see what kind of sources Rather has on this... if you believe Rather, than you shouldn't be worried about such a move.
I see a lot of what's going on right now that I saw with The London Mirror earlier this year with their UK troop Iraqi prisoner abuse story. At first The Mirror defended the inconsistencies on what type vehicles and uniforms were worn, then the story slowly crumbled around them, eventually leading to Piers Morgan resigning.
