Freedom of the Press? Yeah, right. Censorship '04

Censorship '04: Hushing critics
September 12, 2004

Kitty Kelley's new book contains embarrassing tidbits about George W. Bush and his extended family.

Don't bother addressing them! Just pressure the TV networks to cancel the author's interviews!

A new exhibit at Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum includes gripping prison photos from Abu Ghraib.

Don't discuss their meaning or debate the war in Iraq! Get busy trying to cancel the exhibit!

A group of veterans buys TV time to smear John Kerry's service in Vietnam.

Don't answer the smears! Don't smear back! Demand the TV ads be thrown off the air!

Welcome to the New Age of Political Censorship, where disagreeable speech isn't greeted the way the Founding Fathers hoped it would be -with more speech. Increasingly these days, it's met with angry shouts of "Silence," "Boycott" and "Shut up." (More)

1. I love the fair and balanced part of this article
He has throw in a "Fair and Balanced" bone:

snip.......................
"And Kerry should have answered more forcefully - with passion, with outrage, with soaring choruses of "How dare you talk like that?"

But instead of firing back, his minions wrote to local TV stations, saying they shouldn't run the ads."
end snip...................

This in contrast to:

snip.......................
"NBC News president Neil Shapiro says he's gotten calls from White House officials seeking to kill Kelley's promotional interviews on "Today," "Hardball with Chris Matthews" and other NBC shows.
end snip...................

How can you even come close to comparing the two?

2. The Swift Boat ads should be withdrawn because they are untrue.
