So awesome that Pete Seeger got to lead the closing song today

Nearly 90 years old and still sounding awesome!

The man's been fighting the good fight and has seen it all - McCarthyism, the civil rights movement, the fight against war in Vietnam.
They tried to silence him, ban him and blacklist him, but tonight he was honored as the true example of American patriotism that he is.

It was an honor for the work of a lifetime.

Thumbs up to Barack and Bruce for setting that one up!.

2. You damned right, but let's have more Lee Greenwood (more cowbell)!!
Oh, I agree.

How great it is to see one of America's greatest living legends on stage before a president.

3. Absolutely!
And kudos to Pete and Bruce and co. for singing the COMPLETE "This Land Is Your Land" which no one ever does anymore and which has been censored out of the schoolhouses. I'm talking specifically about the "relief office" and "private property" verses. I was actually shocked to hear those verses because I was sure they wouldn't have the balls to do it. I wonder....did Obama give the OK for that or did he not know? I can hear the freepers screaming about socialism right now hee hee...

btw, I saw Bruce sing TLIYL in Oakland in 1985 and it was one of the most moving experiences of my life. He's still The Boss!!!

6. K & R. He was for all the good things when he had to put his living on the line to do so. PBS did
a great program on him and he figures in PBS's show about the folk protest movement. He was the one who made "We Shall Overcome" the theme of the Civil Rights movement, changing the title and lyric from "We Will Overcome" to the more grammatically definite We Shall Overcome, and he added verses. For that alone, he deserves to go down in history himself. But he fought so many other fights, too, including the environment. And was censored, banned and everything else, but he kept going. And he still is.

Keep on keepin' on, Pete.

9. My eyes are all swollen and puffy this morning from watching the concert's closing number
not once, but twice. The first time I was alone in the house, and I full-on sobbed and shouted and clapped and sang along. During the re-broadcast my DH and 2 boys were watching as well, so I had to settle down a bit.

This Land WAS made for you and me.:toast:

10. A beautiful nod to the old left
That was a wonderful and powerful gesture and did more to renew my faith in the underlying values of Obama than almost anything else he's done in the last few weeks.
