Sinclair Broadcasting Group's latest attack on Kerry's Vietnam record
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 02:44 PM by Jonathan Little
Anybody who has a local TV affiliate owned by Sinclair Broadcasting has probably seen their "opinion" pieces presented by Sinclair's VP of corporate relations, Mark Hyman. These short propaganda films are often slanted to the far right, ranging from anti-choice/"pro-life" arguments to attacks on John Kerry and his wife. On my local Sinclair station, they usually air during or immediately after the local evening news broadcast. This is the same corporation that decided that their ABC affiliates would not be broadcasting the "Nightline" program featuring the names and faces of the US troops killed in Iraq.

Sinclair Broadcasting has now attacked John Kerry for shooting a "wounded teenager retreating from battle" while he was fighting the war in Vietnam. Of course this "wounded teenager" also happened to have a loaded rocket launcher on his shoulder. What is it about war that these people don't understand?

You can read a transcript of the piece or watch it here:

This three minute segment was played on my local CBS affiliate, owned by Sinclair Broadcasting Group, on Monday just before the CBS Evening News started.

2. Interesting, I have a news story from early April 2003 about
US soldiers, in Iraq, killing two boys under the age of 12, who picked up a rocket launcher after the man using it was killed. The soldier said that he had to kill them. End of story.

3. Don't forget the Sinclair censorship case.
Sinclair refused to let their affiliates broadcast the "Nightline" episode which named each combat fatality in Iraq one-by-one. This is why the "liberal media" is a myth.

4. unfuckingbelievable
Earlier this spring, cnn (I think) ran some video of US soldiers taking out some wounded iraqis, including, I believe, one who was lying on the ground, unarmed. Where was Sinclair then? Just for the hell of it, I did a 30 second google search and found this freeper-style defense of the iraqi killings. Hypocrites.

" The men who were in this video were in fact weapons dealers; recovered from after this event was one Russian-made rocket propelled grenade (RPG). There was a serious problem with weapons dealers in the area, and extreme measures are sometimes needed. In regards to the rules of engagement comments that have been made: in Iraq, rules of engagement are as follows: if you feel threatened, deadly force is authorized if you deem it necessary. If you see someone with any weapon larger than an AK-47 (ie a 50 caliber machine gun, or an RPG), deadly force is automatically authorized. So, before you go running your mouth like a bunch of liberal hippies, perhaps you should get your facts straight before you go posting all over God’s creation."

6. There's two Sinclair stations in my town
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 03:58 PM by RatTerrier
But nobody watches the newscasts.

They're independent stations that play Sinclair's "freepfest" every night. I don't think it gets much play, though.

How are Sinclair newscasts doing in other markets?

7. Tonight's John Kerry bashing
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 05:41 PM by Jonathan Little
Mark Hyman says that John Kerry didn't deserve his first purple heart.

"In his dishonest efforts to try to create an image that he is some kind of war hero, Kerry insulted each and every serviceman who was legitimately wounded. Many of whom who refused to apply for Purple Hearts even when they qualified for them."
