Call Lamar Smith and tell him he's a fucking liar.
The Congress Member from Texas was just on the floor repeating the lie about the cost of the inauguration. He sited an editorial in the NYT as his proof. Take the time to call him and put this lie in the dirt before everyone is repeating it 4 years from now just like the W's on the keyboards.

Here's his number, just in case you need it:

Washington D.C. Office
2409 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
ph: 202-225-4236
fax: 202-225-8628

Stop this lie.

3. He woudln't care. He's like Cornyn. Every liberal complaint is another vote in his district.
He, Cornyn, and a lot of these right-wingers from conservative areas can impress their voters by attacking liberals. The more they attack, the more their voters thing they are doing god's work, and Texas's work, and all that nonsense that motivates these people.

Lamar Smith was one of Clinton's biggest critics, and one of the worst at attacking the Iraq invasion protesters. I once vowed to move into his district just for the pleasure of voting against him. After the 2000 redistricting, his district was expanded towards Austin, and we all thought there was a chance to defeat him, but he got 73% of the votes. He's a lying scumbag who never passes up a chance to spread a false rumor against Democrats, and his district loves him for it.

4. But please don't make that a reason not to call him.
If everytime someone wanted to do something and other people said it wouldn't do any good, we'd never do anything. Besides, it's fun talking to his idiot interns.

6. Oh yeah, you're right. Thanks for pointing that out.
One gets discouraged (pun there, since his last opponent was named Courage) dealing with folks like him, but by all means blast his switchboard. Don't make it easy on him. Who knows, maybe it would push him to making a mistake that finally makes his voters get it. You never know when the worm will turn.

12. Having been re-redistricted into his district in 2003
The best thing that ever happened to me as a constituent of that asshole was being re-re-redistricted back into Lloyd Doggett's in 2006!

15. I read that article about the real costs but
I didn't save it and I'd like to have some facts when I call..maybe this it.

<snips>

"Yet another news article detailing the cost of the Obama inauguration, including security costs; costs reporters can't actually confirm. Instead the analysis is built on a projection.

Here's the real problem, though: Where's the context? Meaning, how much did previous inaugurations cost, once security expenses were factored in? The entire point of the CNNMoney article is to highlight how expensive the Obama inauguration is going to be. And readers are certainly left with the impression that the spending is historic and just out of control. But is it?

As Media Matters has been noting for days, if you add in the cost of security for Bush's 2005 inauguration, that event cost $157 million. So why does CNNMoney suggest the Obama tab is so newsworthy?"

UPDATE: ABC News does the same thing. It expresses amazement at how expensive the Obama inauguration might be (based largely on security costs), yet makes no reference to the fact that when Bush's inauguration security costs were tabulated his swearing-in cost $157 million."

One thing..I watched abc a lot yesterday and not once did I hear those fawning anchors mention any cost.
