Great conversation...R friend says "That Michelle is one classy lady."
She stated "I loved the J crew, and the dress she chose for the ball sent a huge message." She went on to talk about Michelle letting the people into the gate, and the woman with the lei.

What stunned me and is making me weepy right now was "It is so nice to see a LADY in the whitehouse."

She votedd McCain, but is glad Obama won.

She's been following this so closely that she even talked about him retaking the oath and saying "Let the crows choke on THAT. Now they have nothing to complain about, they made sure the oath was done right."

I love that girl, I think I have her converted!

:woohoo:

Her husband is still being stubborn, love him to death...but he is "Leery" because he's born and bred R.

I didn't have a problem getting him to admit that W was a total waste of air today though, maybe it's easier because he's out of office?

Her hubby did agree though, he said "The country voted for Obama, but will fall in love with Michelle."

1. I could see Michelle getting the same reception in Paris
as Jackie Kennedy did - and her husband introduced himself as "the man who came to Paris with Jackie Kennedy".

7. Does Michelle speak French the way Jackie did? Jackie was fluent.

8. Maybe, but I haven't heard that she is.
Like you say, Jackie Kennedy was fluent in French. Spanish too I think.

There are large differences between Jackie and Michelle. What they have in common is grace, class and a sense of style - I think that's what the French loved about Jackie, not her perfect accent.

3. I'm curious what message your friend thought was sent by the dress.
It wasn't my favorite of gowns I've seen her pictured in, but then I started to think -- maybe "Middle America" (whatever that is) would like her better in this gown than in some of the ones I liked better.

4. That's great to hear. She really is a great and classy woman.
I love that story about her letting those people in at the open house myself.

5. This is the problem Republicans have right now
Obama ran his transition in the smartest way imaginable, and there is a significant portion of Mccain voters who are quite pleased with him at this point. The Republicans are flailing wildly, and have no coherent counter-attack to speak of.

6. These are hard times for Republicans;
They are watching nearly 30 yrs of the Reagan dream crumble before their eyes, not to mention their country and economic system. After 8 yrs of browbeating, they are now powerless. Each seem to be trying to cope in their own way, much like a solider returning home and finding that their efforts were all in vain. Your friend seems to be going about it in an intelligent way, many are not. Grab the popcorn, this is going to be a difficult movie for all to watch.
