Kerry on Imus this a.m.
Check it out; after Don went to the VA hosptial w/McCain, he may have changed his tune.

1. Boy I hope he's changed his TUNE...he's been ticking me off
lately. Not that he really matters but Imus DOES have a "bully pulpit", as it were, and could do a LOT to get a positive message out.

For such a successful, formerly "wild" guy, Imus seems rather stupid/backward sometimes.

(still love his bumper music and wit though):smoke:

He went to a VA hospital w/McCain; as I recall, he mentioned a big gym near VA full of people, all of the folks limbless one way or the other. I do believe this was disturbing to him... SAY IT LOUD!!

I alternately love and hate IMUS, and rarely watch these days. Also trying to keep an eye on Hurricane Ivan news this morning. Even an approximate time on Kerry's appearance would be great, if anyone has heard...

8. Yes, but
we Alabamians like to overreact to severe weather threats as early as possible! =)

Seriously, whether warranted or not, the panic in the air around here is palpable. Batteries, bottled water and non-electric can openers are non-existent in grocercy stores today. And I'm more than three hours from the coast!

39. He did Leno
He rode a motorcycle on stage. Also went on Larry King a few months ago.

Kerry should be doing LOTS of talk shows! Clinton won by doing this in 1992. His MTV appearances were massively successful in bringing out young voters to the polls. Also did well on Phil Donahue and Arsenio Hall. Ross Perot took a lead in the polls by joining at the hip with Larry King. As for Poppy? Well, he went on Rush Limbaugh the week before the election.

If Kerry doesn't do talk shows, then he is stupid. As I keep on saying, GO ON OPRAH!!! Hell, people will pay attention to a talk show host who gives her audience cars, right?

12. Geez, CraigCrawford (+many others) want Kerry to let the cat
out of the bag before he's even elected! "Who's Kerry going to appoint etc..."

Everyone wants to know UPFRONT every move Kerry might make...that doesn't seem appropriate. Besides, a candidate has to get "behind the wheel" and look at the problem in total before he can start the engine. Sheeesh

We are voting for a candidate based on his principals/policies and ideals...we have to trust him for his cabinet selections after that.

16. The snide comments he kept making
about Kerry only appearing on local media, as though somehow Kerry is refusing national media coverage, sent me into a slow burn. That, and "why doesn't he just admit he made a mistake (on the War resolution vote)?" - well, perhaps because jerks like you, Craig Crawford, would be shrieking, "flipflop!" one microsecond afterwards if he did. Heh, the mute button is a must for the next half hour.

Agreed on the cabinet selections. Crawford was making it sound like people have to know these things before making an informed choice, as though it were SOP. Um, no.

Why is everyone pressing only KERRY for plans to get us out of Bush created messes in Iraq, the economy, health care (e.g., the prescription drug gift to the pharmaceuticals) etc.? Why do we hear no one pressing BUSH for plans to correct his mistakes and to respond to new challenges?

73. Exactly
And it was so satisfying when Kerry turned it around and made the point that Bush is the President, Bush is making the decisions, and Bush is the one everyone should be pressing for answers on Iraq right now. Hee, then he goes on to explain how Bush has been making the wrong choices so far. This was really good interview. I have to hand it to Imus for letting Kerry take as much time as he wanted to answer the questions without interruption.

14. One good thing he said after his visit was that he DEFINITELY
would not vote for Bush. Of course with Imus that could change, but if he keeps saying it millions are hearing the message that the war in Iraq is a fiasco that we never should have waged and it's Bush's fault.

that IS the message. Kerry needs to note this war SUCKS, is not winable, we're there because of the smirking chimp, too many people have died already, let's pull the plug. But he will not. If Kerry did, I do believe he'd win a lot more people over than having the same platform as the chimp*. Hey, it's interesting to have a voice on this forum so readily, but oh so early in the a.m.

27. Imus' history
He has/had been supporting Kerry and got his panties in a wad when Kerry, on a train trip, failed to stop and visit the I-man on his ranch in New Mexico this summer. After the trip to see our vets, I think his mind was changed. We'll see shortly. His cohorts are/have been Bush supporters, but as things change/get worse, hopefully cooler heads will prevail and they'll see the error of their ways.
Hi, Sugarbleus, yes, I'm a newbie, but I'm so anti-Bush and have been since before 2000; this is a nice outlet for me. I get to vent w/o screaming at the TV or spouse!! Amazing to me to find a site where everyone agrees on the basic premise, i.e., BU***H SUCKS.

38. The tone JK's using is as good as the content.
He sounds very conversational, not lecturing. Imus just asked him about assault weapons (hit it out of the park) and accused him of not supporting funding for the troops and JK said, but I did! I voted for the largest defense budgets in history...then went on to destroy the rest of the myth also.

Now talking about the 9/11 widows--the war in Iraq was not the right war. Osama did 9/11. He's the one we should be going after...

62. Level of irresponsibility
smeared McCain...challended his character and lied about him and Max Cleland. If you look at their record of dealing with terror, they have made the world less safe. I welcome the debate on that...bring it on.

76. Imus asked "if you see Edwards in his undisclosed location, say hi"
Kerry also said Edwards is doing a great job and is all over the place working hard. Either he or Imus suggested it would be good for him to be on the program and they agreed. Unless Kerry is foolish, which I'm sure he is not, he'll call a staffer over immediately to arrange it.

never my intention to impugn every vet...just to make a point and tell the truth which has been documented. I understand peoples anger, but I had the courage to speak out and tell the truth.

68. Acccountability!
Kerry's steamed about Abu Ghraib. He's saying responsibility for Abu Ghraib should go all the way to the top. Rumsfeld had better watch out. Kerry is angry about this.

This entire interview is excellent. He's really covering a lot of ground from domestic policy to Iraq and pounding home the points very well.

70. Imus: Do you think there are ANY circumstances for us to go to war in Iraq
Kerry: Not that I can see...under the current circumstances we should not have gone to war.

71. I think Kerry did great and must get out there more
he makes sense...explains away the 30 second sound bite lies and distortions made about him by all the right wingers. The more people hear him...the quicker this thing will turn around.

79. You betcha!
It's like I've complained about for a long time...the BIG media WON'T GIVE HIM AN INCH of air time..not like this.

Swing states get more ads and coverage than the entire country gets on the whole.

In any case, this was perfect timing. I hope it invigorates our party to 'keep on trucking' with this campaign.

It's a race and we're STILL IN IT. Woooohoooo :bounce:

81. Kerry did very well, all things considered.
He is up against a massive corrupt corporate media. It's going to take alot of wasted energy just to get past their premeditated biased against him.

83. Press access
By not meeting w/ the National press, he makes himself more of a coomodity. So when they do get him, they let him talk and show him more respect. Clearly this is one of the way bush controls the media.

85. Press access

Kerry won in Iowa by not focusing on the national media, and instead focusing on fundamentals, door to door - person to person.

By not meeting w/ the National press, he is very smart. He makes himself LESS of a commodity.

89. I will clarify
I think by being less available, he makes himself more in demand, and the Press he does get will be more on his terms.
