Kerry: "We've been down this road before" Bush: "What road?"
I paraphrase, but that is precisely what Kerry has conveyed the past 24 hours- that Iraq is becoming another failed occupation, and Bush is absolutely clueless.
In fact, Kerry has lived it, and shows he has the experience to deal with it effectively, whatever his choice may be.
Kerry is living in the real world. Bush... a fantasy land.

1. Yes. I do hope that Kerry follows the Dean model of constantly "shorting"
the war. It's not going to get better between now and November. Perhaps that is Kerry's secret weapon; he's seen this movie before and he knows how it ends.

3. Dean continued to predict that the war wouldn't go well, even when it
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 08:49 AM by MajorFlaw
wasn't so obvious that it wasn't. He gambled that the war would be a bad issue for shrub to have to defend and he was right. I hope that Kerry does anticipate that the news from Iraq, between now and November, is really going to suck.

8. Not much of a gamble for those of us paying attention.
Unfortunately many powerful Dems couldn't see through Bushco's bluff.

4. Senator Hagel: "we are in deep trouble.''
Lawmakers concerned about shift in Iraq reconstruction funds
By Ken Guggenheim, Associated Press, 9/15/2004 14:07

WASHINGTON (AP) The Bush administration's plans to divert $3.46 billion in Iraq reconstruction funds for security could increase dangers in the long run, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Wednesday....

State Department officials appeared before Lugar's panel seeking lawmakers' support for the shift of funds, which needs congressional approval. The proposal would cover almost of a fifth of the $18.4 billion approved by Congress last year, mostly for water, electricity and other public works projects. The money was part of an $87 billion package for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The request comes as heavy fighting continues between U.S.-led forces and a variety of Iraqi insurgents. The violence and bureaucratic delays have slowed spending of reconstruction funds. Lugar said only $1.14 billion has been spent as of Sept. 8, almost a year after it had been approved by Congress. ...

''If the shift of these funds slows down reconstruction, security may suffer in the long run. In short, security and reconstruction must be achieved simultaneously,'' he said.

Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., described the request as ''an acknowledgment that we are in deep trouble.'' ....

10. "research a story"
To the modern media, "research a story" means repeat a White House press release verbatim.

6. Not "we" Hagel. The children you sent to die and be maimed
are in trouble. and the Iraqis are in FAR worse trouble than they were before you went to steal their oil.

7. Good lord
That's a devastating article.

It actually admits that if we keep building pipelines, and they keep blowing them up, we--uh--are spending money and getting nowhere.

Doh.
