Is Kerry missing the boat on the female vote?
Interesting perspective on the conventions and current campaign from Katha Pollitt of the Nation. Given the large number of undecided single female voters, perhaps more attention should be focused in this direction.

"Yeah, the `girlie men' brickbat got the Democrats all riled up, but, speaking of women, why is Kerry taking the female vote for granted?"

1. I don't think he is. Most women are concerned about the
economy, health care cost and availibility, minimum wage, and security. K/E are talking about those things and the women are paying attention.

8. Not trying to be "negative"
Trying to be "realistic" and understand what's going on. Women should be voting overwhelmingly for Kerry, based purely on the issues. Based purely on the issues, Kerry should win 67% to 33% in the general election. Why isn't this the case?

18. You didn't read the article -- it wasn't based on poll numbers.
Here's an example of the reasons -- others are presented in the article:

" has yet to make a direct appeal for women's votes. Martha Burk, the witty and vigorous head of the National Council of Women's Organizations, tells me that during the primaries Kerry actually told a roomful of Women for Kerry that he didn't want to single out female voters because that would be "pandering" to a special interest ('It caused a collective gasp')"

3. I don't feel left out.
I think they are doing a good job with women. Comparing the way the Republicans treat women I think it is a slam dunk for K/E but perhaps that is just me.

11. Kerry + Edwards
Kerry and Edwards are far better looking than * and Darth Vader.

Get Edwards out there more. Better yet, get Edwards on Oprah. That will win the election.
