1. Sat here heard it but for some reason I can't remember. He did say there
was a typewritter that could do it, not a selectra(?) Al said he heard there was a brand of Selectra and the guy said that type was not used in the guard but they went of on that and I lost interest. Point is he knew of typewritters that could do it.

2. Killian's secr recalls hand written memos with same content, but she
does not recall typing them - and her equipment did not include a Selectric composer - but she retire in 79 so Killian may well have had his handwritten memos retyped between 79 and his death in 81.

3. it's all sounded bullshity to me
something about the kind of spacing between letters in the memo not being available on that kind of typewriter, but then agreeing it was available on some typewriters.

4. I think the main reason that he gave was...
this couldn't be done on the typewriters he serviced. The IBM that would do proportional spacing was an IBM Composer, which would cost approximately $25,000 in 2004 dollars.

Al and Katherine were polite, but the serviceman admitted that the type of typewriter that these documents could be produced on, he didn't work on.

He seemed sincere, but didn't work with the typewriter in question.

That is my best recollection. Hope it helps.

5. I Can't Recall It Exactly, but...
He essentially said the letters were too perfect for a Selectric typewriter and the only typewriters available at that time that were capable of producing such a document retailed for $25,000.
Al and Katharine agreed it was unlikely the National Guard had that kind of typewriter, but the argument over the documents doesn't change the facts of Bush's service record which were verified by LTCOL Killian's secretary in Texas and consistent with the CBS News version of the events.
