Question about poll watchers
I'm watching SJ Lee on Cspan talking about poll watchers. Can anyone go watch polls? Can you hang around a polling place as an interested observer all day? Can you film or otherwise record the proceedings?

It is frightening to think that not only do we have BBV with no paper trail, and the Pentagon can have military ballots sent to THEM instead of polling places, AND (was it Missouri?) will let enlisted men FAX their ballots to the polling place, but that there not more people in Congress speaking up courageously like Lee and Elijah Cummings about how serious this potential voter fraud is.

3. Wisconsin polls
Yes, Wisconsin allows poll watchers. A place must be set aside for them to observe the voting where they can hear what the poll workers say to the voters and vice versa. They may also stay and watch the counting of the ballets at any of the polling places after the polls close. However, they may not interfere with the voting or counting in any way. Any one can challenge any voter's right to vote. If a challenge is put out, the voter may still vote but an incident report is made out by the poll workers on each challenge. The challenged vote is then investigated by the city/county clerk to prove or disprove the challenge.

4. Call your
Local Dem Party office. They should be organizing poll watchers.

They should also have people going to the polls on election day to find out who hasn't voted yet so they can be called to see if they need a ride, etc.

They should also be checking before election day to see who has requested absentee ballots so they can be called to make sure they turn them in.

CALL THEM NOW and ask how you can help. 2 hours this week will help!

Working through the party will avoid duplication and, worse, leaving things undone. The conservatives have been getting good at this for thirty years. We need to pay attention to doing it right - ie effectively. It's not hard, but it doesn't just happen on its own.

Time to shift gears from discussion to effective action.

5. Election Protection
I just got an email from True Majority recruiting Poll Watchers for Colorado. I'd guess that they're doing this all over, especially in swing states. Go to www.electionprotection.org

Here's their email text:

Become a “Poll Watcher” in CO and
Stop Voting Rights Violations on Election Day

CO has been identified as one of nine states nationwide that are at “high risk” for voting rights violations such as not allowing registered voters to cast their ballots.

Here’s what you can do to help ensure that all legitimate votes are counted.

A coalition of groups is training volunteers to be Election Day “poll watchers” who will go to polling places, monitor what takes place there, and educate voters about their rights. Volunteers are also needed to hand out flyers in key neighborhoods informing residents of their voting rights.

To volunteer or learn more, visit www.electionprotection.org.

TrueMajority.org is teaming up with our friends at Working Assets, People for the American Way Foundation, and the Election Protection Coalition to put together this program that will work.

Yours in making sure every vote is counted,

Ben
