Yeah, my friend went to the same one.
But she's saying there were no oaths in the past. They've probably gotten rid of that practice now that it's been exposed, but we all know there were some originally. The were on TV, remember?

Obtaining Cheney Rally Ticket Requires Signing Bush Endorsement

By Jeff Jones
Journal Staff Writer

Some would-be spectators hoping to attend Vice President Dick Cheney's rally in Rio Rancho this weekend walked out of a Republican campaign office miffed and ticketless Thursday after getting this news:

Unless you sign an endorsement for President George W. Bush, you're not getting any passes.

The Albuquerque Bush-Cheney Victory office in charge of doling out the tickets to Saturday's event was requiring the endorsement forms from people it could not verify as supporters.

State Rep. Dan Foley, R-Roswell, speaking on behalf of the Republican Party, said Thursday that a "known Democrat operative group" was intending to try to crash Saturday's campaign rally at Rio Rancho Mid-High School. He added that some people were providing false names and addresses and added that tickets for the limited-seating event should go to loyal Bush backers.

It's a GIF of a Smirk/Sneer 04 loyalty oath. There's even a misspelled word.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The hot ticket in town — for President Bush’s Wednesday appearance at Nationwide Arena — is available through the Franklin County Republican Party.

The catch is you have to sign up to be a Bush-Cheney volunteer to get a ticket....Party spokesman Jarrod Weiss said some people have already received phone calls to pick up tickets. Others must sign up to be a campaign volunteer in order to receive tickets.

Some Democrats seeking Cheney tickets had to sign oath
By RICHARD BENKE
Associated Press Writer
Casper Star-Tribune, Wyoming's Statewide Newspaper - July 30, 2004

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) -- Some Democrats who signed up to hear Vice President Dick Cheney speak here Saturday were refused tickets unless they signed a pledge to endorse President Bush.

The measure was a security step designed to avoid a disruption, which Bush campaign spokesman Dan Foley alleged Democrats were planning. Democratic Party officials denied it.

Republicans Sign Along the Dotted Line

Washington Post

I pledge allegiance to the . . . candidate?

Political campaigns are always eager to keep hecklers out of their pep rallies, but the Republican National Committee took that desire to a new level last week, requiring supporters to sign an oath of loyalty before receiving tickets to Saturday's New Mexico rally featuring Vice President Cheney.

Bush-Cheney re-election tactics are disturbing
Staten Island Advance - Wednesday, August 18, 2004
by Stevie Lacy-Pendleton

Know how to ensure a loyal audience who will cheer and clap at the right points in your speech and ask only softball questions with adoration dripping from every word?

Pack the gathering with fans. It's called stacking the deck, and the Bush team are masters at it.

How do they do it?

Loyalty oaths and using the FBI and Secret Service and local police departments, that's how.

OK, now you've got several examples of media coverage of this phenomenon. Let us know your friend's response.

That should cover it.

I'll see how she responds when she comes back online.

You'll be the first to know about it, so check back at GD2004 later. I'll post it in another thread.
