Dumb Repukes always go too far. Threatening media with investigations LOL
The dumb Repukes that have called for an investigation have now shifted the story from (baseless) allegations of forgery to whether the fascist Repuke government should police the media.

1. What would they investigate?
How CBS uncovered the truth--that Bush was not making the grade in the Guard--even if the documents were not the originals? How CBS discovered Bush shirked his duty? I think Bush's numerous failings in the Guard, as well as his use of influence to obtain a billet there ahead of more qualified--and his possible desertion need to be investigated.

2. They are sending a message.
It's an old message and they use this tactic quite often. "Mess with us and we will ruin you".....Why do you think the media walks a fine line these days?

9. They won't ruin Rather! They can threaten all they want. This time
I believe they hit the brick wall! Dan wouldn't broadcast this inflammatory stuff without believing what he was saying. I also don't think he did it without verifying his information very thoroughly. Send him a vote of confidence every day, and trust him.

3. They're investigating the free press
Wouldn't want to let a little thing like the Bill of Rights get in the way of the Republican Party suppressing any possible criticism of their man.

4. maybe the press isn't exercising it's rights properly
The Repukkkes would like to set up rules on "allowable speech" no doubt--and none of it is critical of the Fearless Leader!

5. Stupid Repukes in action
From CNN:

"I understand that people want to protect their sources, but we're dealing with the alleged forgery of government documents to influence a presidential race during war," DeLay told reporters. "This isn't politics as usual. It's dangerous and possibly criminal."

Yeah, that's what WE'VE been saying about VALERIE PLAME! What a dumbass! A traitor in the White House is of no consequence to DeFraud. But God forbid the media should actually shed light on Smirk being a FRAUD and LIAR. Nope, can't have that.

And, of course, DeLay had to remind people that we are in a war. You know, in case nobody knew that already. It's fearmongering is what it is, because the fact that we're in war has no bearing whatsoever on any of this.

I won't even comment on the fact that Tom DeLay (!) is talking about criminal actions. Kind of like Bob NoFacts telling people to reveal their sources. (Say, maybe we should investigate THAT?)

"The questions about the documents prompted Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Arizona, to take the floor of the House Tuesday to demand answers to two questions: 'What did Dan Rather know, and when did he know it?'"

Dan Rather knew that Bush is a liar and a fraud back in 1972, and he still is today. And I suspect, like most of us, he's known it for quite a while.

"I understand we believe in the First Amendment," Hayworth said.

Sure, unless they tell the truth.

"In terms of the timing of these old, recycled attacks on the president, it is clear that this is an orchestrated attempt by Democrats and the Kerry campaign," he said.

Ah, kind of like those old, recycled attacks on Kerry's service record which were orchestrated by the Bush?

"Despite the growing abundance of evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud, the network has declined to reveal the source of the disputed documents," Cox said.

What about evidence that the White House has aided and abetted fraud. (AKA, everything that has come out of Shrub's mouth since 1/20/2001.)

8. That "war" DeWhore mentioned - is that the one where we kill and torture
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 08:54 PM by Mr_Spock
people who are guilty of nothing other than being in a place where we have the weapons and our Constitution doesn't apply?

DeLay - whore, criminal, liar - he will have such a terrible existence when he is out of power and has to live with his lies.

7. I say call their bluff and let an investigation go forward
Make them compel CBS to reveal the source, give CBS no other legal option if possible, so that they have a way out as journalists to reveal it w/o cutting off their access to sources forever. (Journalists out there -- could that work?) That would expose a cover-up, seems to me.

And as a parallel, make Bob Novak reveal his sources in the interest of fairness.

Too bad this can't happen before the election, though.
