Lou Dobbs nails David Gergen
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 06:08 PM by mbali
As part of the 999th discussion this week about what Kerry is doing wrong in his campaign, Gergen babbled on and on about how "incoherent" Kerry's message on Iraq is.

GERGEN: "You cannot as the Democratic challenger, as deaths are accumulating in Iraq, as the place is coming closer and closer to chaos, say "well let's talk about the economy.

DOBBS: Do YOU have any idea what the Bush Administration's strategy on Iraq is?

GERGEN: Uhhh - no.

So, Gergen insists that Kerry's message is incoherent, yet then has to admit, under Dobbs' questioning, that he himself has no clue what Bush's strategy is either.

And am I the only one who finds it strange that Gergen manages to slip a mention of the accumulating deaths and near-chaos in Iraq into his diatribe about Kerry's problems, without even mentioning that the death and chaos are happening on Bush's watch? Thus, although Gergen acknowledges that Iraq is a complete mess and that Bush has not articulated a clear strategy for resolving it, the jumping off point for this - and just about every other- discussion about the campaign - is what Kerry is doing wrong.

2. Did Phil Donahue or someone slip into Lou Dobb's body?
I was watching him last night and it almost seems as if he is the most liberal thing on cable news at times.

I thought David Gergen made good points on Zell Miller during the convention.... it's too bad he was disappointing tonight (haven't seen tonight's show yet.)

14. I have suspicion about Gergen
I was watching a thing about Watergate several months ago, and he was interviewed for it. As we all know, he worked in the Nixon administration. Anyway, when they got to question of who was Deep Throat, and Gergen was asked if he was the secret Woodward/Berstein source, he answered "no" but he did so looking everywhere but at the interviewer. I thought that was strange. I watched it again just to make sure I was right about this, and paying close attention to Gergen during his answers, he always looked right at the interviewer (who was not seen) when answering other questions, but he looked down, sideways, almost anywhere but at the person asking the question. His body language was completely different when the question became 'were you Deep Throat?'. Very odd.

16. Normally it would ALL be Clinton's
fault, but I guess since Clinton is recovering, Kerry is the "it" guy.

4. I didn't get to see this, but I did get in on the
tail end of his interview of Kitty Kelly. After hearing that, I do believe that Dobbs is a lefty! Is that your impression? Or is it that he just doesn't like the Bushes???

12. Don't think he's a lefty - the rest of them are so far to the right
that anyone who's not an off-the-chart Right Wing Nut appears to be a raving liberal.

15. No
I think he's coming off that way because nearly everyone else is siding with the GOP and using their talking points to interview people. He is being fair, something almost no other television journalist has bothered with in this election season.

8. You are misjudging Gergen
He has stated before that bush had screwed up in Iraq. His comments about that and about Kerry not giving a clear message are both correct. This guy is conservative, but he is not a complete idiot. Many of the smarter conservatives are disgusted with bush.

13. I don't have a problem with him saying Kerry needs a clear message
but that's ALL he harped on in this interview, as if Bush was doing a fantastic job. He spent five minutes wailing on Kerry for not having a message only to be forced to admit that Bush doesn't have one either.

11. I like Gergan for the most part
But the point here is that most "reporters" should be doing what Dobbs just did...ask all these repug hacks what Bush's plan fir iraq is. He's the freaking Prez isn't he?

17. Dobbs seemed impressed with Kerry's interview with Imus this morning
Imus asked Kerry the same question this morning: "What is your plan to get us out of Iraq". Kerry has fortunately been reading Krugman's column the last couple of weeks, who has kept advising him to answer "You should be asking George Bush that question."
