Bernstein would not let him play that game, he wanted to focus on the fact that the basic facts in the documents are true and that nobody was denying that. Bernstein then pushed the argument that the press should be following journalistic ethics and getting at the objective truth of both candidates war records but side-stories such as these only derail that whole process. All that Hannity could sputter was that this was a huge scandal (CBS) HUGE (Hannity's emphasis - with lots of typical Hannity hand waving and finger pointing for emphasis - boy that bothers me). Going as far as insinuating that it would play out to be a bigger scandal than Watergate - Hannity is so logically and ethically bankrupt it blows my head!

Bernstein said that since the contents of the memos are true, even if the physical papers are in doubt, the debate should shift to what Bush did before he was president and after he became president, and not the endless details of typefaces. Colmes was pressing hard and Hannity finally started snarling that it must have been a plant from the Democrats and started yelling that it should be investigated. (This is as best a paraphrase as I can manage).

I remember a few months ago they had, what they thought at the time was a "fox news liberal" on the show with Coulter and Hannity and he proceeded to tear Bush a new asshole, Coulter lost her mind and called liberals a "bunch of rabid monkeys" while hannity was just foaming at the mouth and pointing like he was going to physically attack the guest or the worthless thug that he is. Damn I wish I'd remembered that liberals name...

Among other points, he said...

- CBS needs to further check the credibility of the documents internally and then report.

- "Memogate" (the term which he scoffed at) is a "sideshow." What's important from a journalistic is what these two candidates actually did. He recommended FauxNews produce an investigative report called "daddy what did you do in the war".

- Calls for a congressional investigation reek and the members should read the constitution before even suggesting such a thing.

- It's absolutely NOT an issue of media BIAS but about journalistic responsibility.
