The press HAS to debunk this story . . .
Otherwise, if Bush's AWOL status is proven and his lies are exposed, the American public might rightfully demand to know why the press ignored this story 4 years ago when it really mattered.

Validation of this story would only reveal how woefully pathetic the press was in 2000, focusing on Gore's perceived "exaggerations," his earth tones and whether the food on his plane was better than on Bush's rather than on how pathetically unprepared W was to become this nation's Commander in Chief. And now that his shortcomings have resulted in thousands of deaths, a ruined economy and worldwide disdain, the press cannot and will not allow themselves to be called to answer for their failure to do their jobs.

So they have to downplay this story and discredit any "traitors" amongst them who threaten to pull the curtain back on their catastrophic failure.

1. It can't be debunked. Only prolonged and/or delayed. (nt)

3. Being debunked as we speak.
The "was Bush AWOL" story has been trampled by a full frontal "Are the Documents forgeries" attack. It's aggravating, but every network but CBS pounced on CBS, attacking the messenger instead of the examining the message.
