Why go to the trouble of making up new documents?

And isn't it possible that he is just the one who forwarded the memos to CBS? Perhaps they were sent to him by someone else.

1. Maybe providing the originals is illegal.
More specifically, illegal in terms of military/national guard regulations.

Killian's secretary alluded to that as a motive for someone to "redo" the memos on 60 Minutes.

3. Because the secretary said she didn't type them
Of course, Killian could have typed them himself.

Who the hell knows.

5. LOL
Yes. It is unraveling one thread at a time. And it is unnerving.

6. If I were privy...
...to someone destroying documents that I wanted to retain, and I knew that I'd have trouble "smuggling them out", I'd scan them with OCR software, and then embed the image within the bytecode of another image, like say vacation photos, or something similiarly innocuous, and then email them to someone. PGP encryption of a full image might be more than an email system could handle, the file size would be too large to email or go unnoticed. A skelton structure and content though could be reduced enough though.

This is all if I were a very crafty individual...

7. That's a very interesting possibility.
It would explain virtually all of the issues with the documents, including the secretary saying she did not type them.

Say Burkett stashes all of the damning documents from the wastebasket in his desk or something. Then he finds a "crafty individual" who tells him how to use an OCR reader to scan the docs. He e-mails the scans to a friend, as you suggested and then recovers the files from the friend.

He either tosses the originals or still has them stashed somewhere.

He also has some uncontroversial documents with Killian's signature, which he cuts and pastes. Or would the signature just come through on the scan?

12. I think he may have "looked" at the docs before they were destroyed....
...and then took some docs that had Killians' sig and did a copy/paste job after stupidly retyping them. Unfortunately this will come down as a scam against Bush. CBS was punk'd, but not on purpose. If Burkett was involved, at this point I don't see it as a Rove inspired plan. Will the public buy the sell: the content is true even if the memos are fakes?

Unfortunately....no. In fact, I'm thinking let's move on from Bush's guard record. No one cares, and it's literally drowning out anything Kerry is saying. Between the hurricanes every other week and Vietnam crap...all I do is switch channels while watching the news.
