I heard them when he was governor. Nobody's come forward to claim him (would you?), so they remain only rumors.

I think we're missing the real story. Bush's status, according to the papers he released, had been demoted from F-102 pilot to trainee. Was he showing up impaired? Did he have a crash or even a near crash? Were other guys refusing to fly with him? Just what the hell happened?

When he walked away, Vietnam was winding down. He'd been taken off flight status and put back on trainers. The Guard was just one more thing he'd screwed up, so he walked away.

The question remains what and how he screwed up. Why were his records scrubbed? What was he hiding?

And if someone came forward with a videotape showing it, there would immediately be a dozen expert witnesses testifying that it wasn't really a man, but a Red Cross dummy, and Bush was pulling an all-nighter practicing his CPR skills.

Then Drudge would run a story on it, and the talking head shows would have interviews with experts on CPR dummies who would say it looks like a dummy to them, then someone would point out that Bush is the dummy, what about the other guy in the bed, and the whole thing would turn into a mess. By the time the actual facts started coming out, Jeff Greenfield would say the story wasn't really about Bush in bed with another man, or another dummy, but the allegations themselves. And then people would forget about it, except to note that Bush's vigorous defence against the charges demonstrated how bold and audacious he was, and what an excellent person that makes him to defend this country against terrorism.

18. I don't think Bush intentionally missed his medical exam and got grounded

James Bath also missed his medical exam and was also permanently grounded from flying. What are the odds that two friends would each have a separate reason for missing an exam at the same time, with the same result.

My hunch is that Bush was told NOT to bother appearing for his medical exam. I have a feeling that something embarrassing to the National Guard occurred and they sought a reason to type on a form that wasn't so embarrassing, to justify grounding him. Missing a medical exam offered a convenient excuse.

My feeling is that it might have been a crime jointly committed by Bath and Bush, use of drugs, sex, or some other monkey business that led the TANG to feel that they couldn't risk letting Dubya fly jets anymore. The failure to accomplish the annual medical exam by both Bath and Bush was just a concocted and convenient excuse for the National Guard so they didn't have to reveal the true reason.
