Michelle on the cover of People magazine

Excerpts from Michelle Obama People Interview

On family time in the White House: “We have dinner as a family together every night, and Barack, when he's not travelling, tucks the girls in. We haven't had that time together for , so that explains a lot why we all feel so good in this space.”

On how her husband is coping with the job: “Barack has always amazed me at his level of calm. I see him thriving in this; I don't see the weight. He is calm and clear in a way that reassures me as a citizen.”

On her marriage: “I don't want anybody to think it's that easy. It works because we really work at it…We have a strong marriage, but it's not perfect.”

On the kids: “Our girls are just complete comic relief. We're dealing with that age range where they're pretty funny in their observations and sort of lack of being impressed with any of this.”

On the kids doing chores in the White House: “People want to make your life easy, and when you have small kids – I've explained this to the staff – they don't need their lives to be easy. They're kids.”

On the timing for the first dog: “So Sasha says ‘April 1st.' I said, ‘April.' She says, ‘April 1st.' It's like, April!”

On dog names: “Frank was one of them. Moose was another. I'm like, no. Come on. Let's work with the names a little bit.”

On her being a role model: "I embrace that. I don't feel that to be a burden in any way, shape or form. I'm excited by the possibilities."

4. I like her hair short/pulled back like that and nice dress too...sorry vanity post...
...she looks great in single jewel tones and that dress and cut and color are magnificent.

There. I'm done admiring all the 'fluffy' things about Michelle when she obviously is intelligent, incredible, and quite accomplished person in her own right, and a great Mom, too.

Sorry.

11. Don't apologize Triana, especially twice!
We've been traumatized by the past eight years.

These "vanity" posts are to be expected and we should allow ourselves a little "fluff."

It's a celebration and a necessary part of decompressing, so to speak, after the long hard slog we've been put through!

Anyway, you shouldn't have to apologize...it's all good!

7. They are undeniably beautiful people, I get it. However,...
People Magazine!? Come on, they can and should do a lot better than that!

Jeff Goldblum's character in the Big Chill said of People Magazine: the length of each article is dictated by how long it takes an average American to take an average crap.

21. Don't be a snob!
All types of people read magazines such as People, including smart, educated people. Sure, People Magazine is not Scientific American or National Geographic, but every now and then people enjoy reading something that is not deep and heavy ... just for relaxation or entertainment ... to escape the everyday stresses of life.

I consider myself well read and educated, but at the same time I look forward to watching Desperate Housewives each week for a little escapism. It's the same thing with People Magazine, which I do not read except if I am in the waiting room of a doctors office and I see a copy sitting on the table, then I'll pick it up and thumb through it. Sure, it's fluff, but it's harmless fluff.

So lighten up! Just because Michelle Obama is featured in this weeks copy of People Magazine doesn't mean diddly squat.

22. Nothing is without meaning!

These are people of the land, the common clay of the new West. You know…..Morons.
--Blazing Saddles

harmless fluff? Sorry, no it's rubbish.

8. I'm happy to see this for two reasons:
one is because I enjoy reading about the family, the second is because someone in a letter to the editor last month complained, saying "enough about the Obama's - not all of us voted for them, you know". Maybe that person will get the message that the Obama's are now President and First Lady!

10. She looks very nice.
I wonder one thing though, we are in winter and the majority of the time I see her in sleeveless outfits. She had a sleeveless dress last night too on a cold evening in DC. What's up with that?

She has nicely toned arms, but it ain't summer yet.

:D

24. You're pitching a fit over the dumbed down intellect of the American
people and you're using two movies as justification? The Big Chill and Blazing Saddles?

See anything ridiculous there?
