Compromise on Immigration Reform
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 11:55 AM by cwcwmack
I don't support a full path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants... it's not lawful. But I don't support a bias against them ala rw wingnuts who wish to send them home on a bus.

Why not just grant all of them permanent resident status? They can get real SS numbers, pay taxes and get out of the shadows... and we don't have to worry about the constitution and the legality of blanket citizenship and giving them the right to vote.

What say YOU?

2. Build a wall, restrict immigration,
and grant amnesty to all illegal immigrants currently living here. That's my (very rough) plan.

4. Amnesty only
For those who have put down roots, and have no criminal records. I have no problem with people becoming legal, but I have a big problem with more criminals coming here. We have enough crime, so only after complete background checks would I agree with any kind of amnesty! There also should be rules that if any felony is committed wile waiting for citizenship, they would be deported. And as Obama said, they will have to go to the back of the line to get legal so that those who have obeyed the law to come here are allowed to enter and go to work first!

6. mmmm hmmm...
Becoming "legal" can be accomplished with permanent resident status. How about "citizenship"?

7. The Criminal record thing is fine. But how would the Government decide who has "put down roots"?

5. Huh?
"I don't support a full path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants... it's not lawful."

Make a law, then it's lawful.
