Raise your hand if you've NEVER EVER made an off-color joke.
Then we can see how many liars we have here.

It's something everyone's done. Obama just happened to do his at a very public appearance. Cut a break. Nobody's perfect.

I'm just saying, we have to patrol our own or patrolling theirs becomes nothing but a device.

Not that this was a major or malicious goof-up, but some of the justifications are too homer for me.

38. Obama does not belong to the party of intolerance
Yes it was a stupid remark and I don't defend it as though absolutely nothing were wrong. But I'm not going to jump all over Obama and call him a bigot, like I would if Bush did this. The reason for that is that Bush belongs to a party that is notorious for its bigotry and Obama does not. When the Republicans stop being the bigot party I will stop calling them bigots every time they make a slightly insensitive remark.

46. Well said. We agree, I was just approaching it from the other side.
Some were acting like he had said nothing wrong and no one had a right to be offended. Of course some people had a right to be offended, it was insensitive and it cut some people.

But I agree with you completely--it did not reveal an inner bigotry, and his actions and words show he isn't a bigot, unlike those of the Republican Party in general.

Well said, you expressed what I was getting at far better than I was doing.

26. LOL - "just happened to do his at a very public appearance" -- that's putting it mildly!
He did it on the Tonight Show. Keep in mind, there was a big lead-up to this, as we have all been told again and again how this is an HISTORIC first in that NO SITTING PRESIDENT has ever appeared on any such late-night talkshow before.

Of course it was an accident, but it was a terrible one to make. People are already starting to say that Obama relies too much on the teleprompter -- this gaffe during a non-teleprompted conversation only reinforces that complaint.

(Plus, it was revealed today that the White House is to have a vegetable garden, and arugula will be grown. Also, yes, it's been confirmed that the DVDs Brown got don't work in England. :banghead: Not a good day.)

28. People have been making fun of Obama for using the teleprompter forever.
Why are you worried about what Freepers think? Why is the White House having a vegetable garden a bad thing? Who cares if Brown isn't smart enough to have a universal DVD player? Region coding is for suckers.

32. Brown "isn't smart enough" to have "a universal" DVD player?
I'm thinking it's more along the lines of perhaps, he -

isn't spendy enough
isn't techno-geeky enough
is blind in one eye and is going blind in the other
and isn't that much of an appliance snob?

How much extra do these universal DVD players go for? (I have no idea.) Are they easily found? Are they actually sold, or do you have to be some computer guy who can rejigger a regular DVD player through the use of their Foxfire-Godzilla KwaZulu skills in Linus or whatever the hell all that stuff is.

(At the same time, your other points, I can accept. You're right, the teleprompter canard is old hat, and there IS nothing wrong with a vegetable garden at all.)

From the I Dream of Jesus episode:

Chris: (to waiter) Wow, are you a robot?
Waiter: No, silly. It's the 1950's and I have polio.
Chris: Wow, I've never heard of that before.
Peter: Oh yeah, Chris. Polio back then is like AIDS today; except people with polio get into heaven.

I have Polio and the heaven crack is something I was told as a kid - I thought this was funny.
