Which is why I end up doing all the digging.

25. You've been had
Women's bodies are different from men's, which is why they shovel differently. However, studies have shown that they're better designed for things like digging and shoveling snow -- much better at it than men, with less damage to the body.

48. I wish I had a link to the article
but apparently it has to do with the mechanics of the female anatomy -- being designed for carrying babies -- that makes it easier for them to do tasks like shoveling.

59. No rototiller if you want to plant a garden that comes up with no grass..
The grass must be removed first..that is step one. If you just rototill then you end up with a garden full of grass because most of the grass will just grow right back.
After you remove the grass you rototill with good clean top soil added that was already enriched with fertilizers the year before. If you fertilize right when you plant you will burn a lot of plants..it is better to use good organic soil already fertilized.
Then you will have little weeding and a lot of healthy plants. Especially if they mulch carefully to keep the watering down and the soil at the correct temperature for the best growth.

They shoulda looked up ADVANCED VICTORY GARDENS....Hydroponics combo'd with a fish pond....water from pond pumped for 20 min 2x a day to plants in higher than pond level.. Containers/plants with drain hoses takes the excess water back to the pond....which has a float valve to replenish water used by the plants and evaporation.

The fish or prawns in the pond is fed....the fish waste is pumped to the plants which drains back to the pond...cleaned...

they sell these kits everywhere....

Hugh rewards.....

75. I compost in place.
Most of the trees we have are Ash, Maple and Elm. All of them shed leaves that decompose rapidly. I turn the chopped leaves under in the Fall and cover the beds with a thick layer of chopped leaf mulch. The decomposing leaves help the beds warm up quicker in the Spring by planting time, they have broken down. No lost nutrients.

39. It's a Renaissance, the WH is coming alive again!
I'm not so sure that was "gardening attire", but her smile, once again steals the show...

The contrast between this WH and the stodgy R WH's is amazing. The only time anyone dug during the bush administration was when they were burying their souls...now we have a great First Lady that is out there w/kids doing what so many Americans love...the chance to mosey around in the garden, getting back to nature, the smell of rich, dark earth beneath the fingernails. The stuff of life, as opposed to the pall of death.

I am so glad these people are in the WH, they bring light and growth... (yeah, I know it's a flower garden smilie, but it's the only one I could find w/gardening...:) )

I'll use this when they get the dog...:D
