Guys...let's take Obama off his pedestal...take him down a notch...
Because all the sanctimonious and self-righteous rancor will be sure to undermine his popularity ratings. And the less popular he is, the better chance we have of getting universal health care passed...

...oh wait!?!

:yoiks:

5. Those are the type who believe in being right
before wanting to help the people of this nation in a real way.

They are as bad as the GOP, if not worse, because they know better.

6. I have to remind myself that DU isn't the real world. People are
happy with this President and feel he's doing a good job. As much as he's attacked here and in the MSM, regular Americans that supported him in the beginning still do.

10. Mostly happy..
but, I had an encounter at work last night that hit hard how hate radio is making zombies out of former human beings.

She was in our co-op hatin' on Prez Obama..hurling insults at him(it seems "Obama deluded a lot of people into voting for him") and his supporters and then when she left it was all about her perceived persecution that she had a "right to her opinion".

I was so proud of myself that in the heat of attack I didn't say anything insulting or personal..it was all about defending President Obama.
The last thing I said to her as she was backing out of the door was, "Love Obama":)

The more I thought about it afterwards, though, the madder I got! How dare she come into our establishment with her programmed hate after they had 8 years and couldn't fucking handle?

7. Just when we get the majority and ready to roll,
and all we have to do, all we have to do, all we have to do, is stick together in order to succeed, stand behind the man (I'm sure someone will be here soon to tell us we can't do this because he's not the messiah), we get all manner of sanctimonious crap, all dressed up in the flag and how if we don't dissent, we're not American.

Can't win for losing. It's ridiculous.

8. That's where my thoughts are right now as well... we finally have our chance to make so much of
it right. Not perfect, but at least a lot better. This isn't the time to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

If we don't get healthcare passed now, this year, we will possibly be waiting 20 more years.

11. B, but by making anonymous posts on an internet message board I am saving Democracy!
I am defending of FREE SPEECH!

And um, we're not like THEM! We actually criticize our leaders (albeit over petty meaningless crap).

I am not a mindless idol-worshipping fool that believes everything he reads in internet echo-chambers. I am a mindless fool that believes everything he hears on corporate-owned 24-hour news networks!

13. For some people, activism is more about their own personality disorders...
... than it is about actually accomplishing anything worthwhile. In the real world, progress always comes with flaws and compromises as a result of the need to cooperate with others in society -- imperfections that the personality-disordered cannot view from a mature perspective. Such people have time and time again proved themselves to be serious obstacles to desperately needed change.

They'll drag us down, if we let them. Fortunately, more of us seem to have reached the point where instead of trying to mollify them, we just tell them to get over it (whatever the pretext for their current tantrum happens to be).

22. How about we continue to speak the truth, ask questions and hold our leaders accountable...
...and let THEM be responsible for their own popularity numbers?

That is, after all, the responsibility of an adult, informed electorate in a representative democracy.

23. No problem. However, IMHO, a lot of the anger being directed at
Obama is actually leftover anger at BushCo.

Obama is not perfect, and he's sure as hell not going to do things the way everyone wants him to do.

He's not immune from anger and/or criticism.

But, I truly wonder if a lot of the anger and judgement leveled against him is not, in fact, left over from when Bush was in office.

Just sayin'.......

24. His presidency is settling into real world expectations
The reactions immediately after the election were extremely heightened. People were overjoyed but they were also expecting miracles. I realized at the time that unless he started shitting gold bricks there was going to be disappointment from those people who were saying all their problems were now solved and it was easy street from now on.

I predict a lull and then a rise again but this time to more realistic levels.
