President Obama to speak at three Graduations
He'll speak during ceremonies at Arizona State University, the University of Notre Dame, and the United States Naval Academy in May.

1. My daughter was soooo hoping that he would speak at hers.....
and they have yet to announce any of the speakers, so she still holds out hope!

5. She's mad at Boston University!
They just now expressed interest in her as a Master/PHD candidate, and it was due to the Stimulus package passing. In otherwords, research that they weren't going to do, they are now doing.

But she already accepted another offer, but yet what BU is offering her is EXACTLY to the "T" what she wanted to conduct her research on. She is mighty pissed and a bit conflicted!

6. Can't she get out of her other commitment?
If she was offered exactly what she wants, she should go for it even if she has to renege on the other offer.

7. Hard to do. She has already accepted.....and with that acceptance came
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 05:31 PM by FrenchieCat
a large fellowship endowement towards her tuition and personal expenses that will allow her to study without working for 5 years. I don't know if BU would be willing to top that...cause Boston has a higher cost of living. The other dilemna is that the other school, has a higher ranked medical school and research facility (3rd in the nation).

Within such a tightly knitted community in her field of study, pissing off a world renowned scholar in that area who personally picked you up from the airport and dined and squired you for 5 days all expenses paid, wouldn't be a great way to start; kinda of like burning bridges big time! :(

Anyways, a bird in the hand is worth two in the Bush...right?

Some folks would kill to be in her position, so she's not exactly complaining.

9. Well...
At least she has a problem that a lot of people would love to have. Although it sounds like she'll have to stick with the school that already accepted her and that she already accepted, it DOES sound like a good deal. Sorry she couldn't get what she originally wanted, but this may just end up being the best thing that could've happened. Good luck! :)

8. This is a presidential tradition . . .
Each year, the president speaks at three schools - a private college/university, a state university and military academy.

It's nice to see President Obama continuing the tradition.

10. Dang it. Wish he would have picked UT Austin
My daughter graduates in May.There's her college grad ceremony (Theater Dept--she's getting a stage manager degree) where she walks across the stage, gets her degree, etc and then the bigger University ceremony a few days later. So help me if they pick a repuke to speak I'm wearing an Obama shirt and ditching my dress up clothes.
