Remember when Obama's bid for the Presidency almost ended because he couldn't bowl?
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 05:09 PM by ProSense
During the presidential primary season, then-candidate Barack Obama’s poor performance at a bowling alley briefly threatened to blossom into a full-blown disaster.

People were outraged because, as the article points out, the poor performance "fed the notion, pushed by conservative critics, that Mr. Obama was an arugula-eating elitist who was out of touch with the needs and lifestyle of regular Americans." Who knew, bowling would ever be cast as the new windsurfing?

Edited typo.

1. pushed by all the media.
funny thing is that bowling is really dying as a sport whereas it seems everybody plays or has played basketball.

2. Obama was President for all intents and purposes on the day of the NC/IN primaries
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 05:14 PM by alcibiades_mystery
The whole "drama" of the election season was mostly a farce. Once the primary was decided, it was certainly a joke to think that the GOP would win in 08. This was the democratic primary for mayor of Baltimore. The general is just a formality at that point.

5. Yeah, but it was after Super Tuesday, and Obama was really already in by then
There was a little doubt, but not much. The other camp was in disarray and flailing embarrasingly, which was the only reason we even got to hear much about arugula and the like.

6. It was before pennsylvania and was used to coincide with the
Bitter comments from (eek gawd) San Francisco!

He was crowned the elite in the race.

That was coming shortly after the good ol' Rev month long incident.

It is a wonder that this man is our President, considering the media guns trained at him.

8. And, NOW the Obamas are going to
plant arugula amoung other veggies on the south lawn of the White House.:bounce:

<snip>

"For more than a decade, food activists have rallied, cajoled, even pleaded for a vegetable garden on the White House lawn. Now they're finally going to get it.

Today, first lady Michelle Obama will host a groundbreaking for a White House kitchen garden on the South Lawn. She will be joined by students from Bancroft Elementary in Northwest Washington, , whose participation in the project will continue past today, as they help with planting in the coming weeks and harvesting later this year.

The 1,100-square-foot garden will include 55 kinds of vegetables, including peppers, spinach and, yes, arugula. (The selection is a wish list put together by White House chefs.) There will also be berries, herbs and two hives for honey that will be tended by a White House carpenter who is also a beekeeper. The chefs will use the produce to feed the first family, as well as for state dinners and other official events."

12. It's like all the old gates of the campaign season are coming back to haunt them -
Now we have Bowlinggate II, Arugulagate II, and even Snubgate II (this time the snubbee being Gordon Brown, and yes, the latest is that the DVDs don't work in his machine.)

13. No, you have that exactly Wrong.
Nothing's coming back to haunt them..they're moving forward because they admit their mistakes and learn from them.

And, I don't really care that the DVDs didn't fit..I'm sure something good will come from that, too, because I am a positive person and don't dwell on shit.

9. Don't forget the other fatal mistakes he made.
He went to a diner, and REFUSED their offer of coffee, requesting orange juice instead!!!!!

I mean, can you IMAGINE????? How RUDE and OUT OF TOUCH with the average American does a man have to be, to ask for ORANGE JUICE instead of ACCEPTING COFFEE at a diner?? :scared:

11. lol
we need the actual dialogue for effect.
http://mediamatters.org/items/200804110004

MATTHEWS: What's so hard about doing a diner? I don't get it. Why doesn't he go in there and say, "Did you see the papers today? What do you think about that team? How did we do last night?" Just some regular connection?

SHUSTER: Well, here's the other thing that we saw on the tape, Chris, is that, when Obama went in, he was offered coffee, and he said, "I'll have orange juice."

MATTHEWS: No.

SHUSTER: He did.

And it's just one of those sort of weird things. You know, when the owner of the diner says, "Here, have some coffee," you say, "Yes, thank you," and, "Oh, can I also please have some orange juice, in addition to this?" You don't just say, "No, I'll take orange juice," and then turn away and start shaking hands. That's what happens --

MATTHEWS: You don't ask for a substitute on the menu.

SHUSTER: Exactly.

MATTHEWS: David, what a regular guy. You could do this. Anyway, thank you, David Shuster. I mean, go to the diners.
