CNN Ratings Collapse
I wonder if Anderson Cooper's always dour expressions/personality have anything to do with it? I'm kidding -- though not about the dour expressions. At least pretend like you enjoy your job, Anderson.

CNN's March Ratings So Far: More Lamb than Lion

More evidence that CNN is going to have to find a new strategy fast or risk becoming a cable news also-ran: In the month of March so far, the Time Warner-owned network has come in fourth place in prime time among adults 25 to 54, the key demographic for advertisers, more often than not.

Through March 17, CNN trailed not only Fox News and MSNBC but also its own sister network, Headline News, on nine out of 17 days. On one day, March 13, CNN even drew fewer 25-to-54 viewers than CNBC -- the first time that's happened since November 2007. And of the eight days it finished higher than fourth in the demo, five were either Saturdays or Sundays, typically the lowest rated nights for the news networks.

Asked about the trend, a CNN spokeswoman offered a statement that emphasized the network's long-term ratings growth -- while ignoring the even sharper gains made by Fox News and MSNBC -- and its claim to being No. 1 in total reach. (As I've noted before, that claim is based on CNN's "cume," or cumulative audience, a measure generally considered less important to advertisers.)

deputize for Keith, hence the reason I took offense to the kinky hair
reference, its usually made toward black women which is seen as a more
malign insult to black women.

64. Yes, and her hair is curly, not kinky.
Except for when she had it straightened just before she got pregnant. I am happy to see she went back to the curls! She is my favorite "Countdown" sub.

Alison would be great on her own show! She has a great on-air personality, and MSNBC's evening lineup would benefit from another woman, IMO.

But I am amazed how some people are ready to jump down your throat at what they perceive to be a racial slur. It was nothing of the kind. Being gay and ubiquitously aware of prejudice, the last thing I would intend to do is to malign anyone's looks or ethnic makeup.

42. That's because Independents and Democrats go to a wide
variety of sources. They don't need comforting propaganda to reinforce their beliefs the way Republicans do. It is in the nature of how they think to not want to hear contrarian views.

A lot of liberals like myself don't mind MSNBC, but we find it lacking in substance and like to go over to PBS or BBC for some meat. But if it has to be fluff, I definitely would pick CNN last.

That is why Fox News will always be #1. Libs and Indy's split their time to various channels.

71. Fox made gains I think because they are the supermarket "Globe"
and "National Enquirer" of news networks. While factual Newspapers of all political stripes and leanings are falling by the wayside.. The National Enquirer and Globe keeps chugging on chugging out made up stories.

Fox found that formula works for them. People watching Glen Beck, and I know more than a few, are watching because it is like Jerry Springer,, they are waiting for him to have a national breakdown or throw chairs.. seriously, that is what they have told me.

Jack Rafferty was the first TV reporter on CNN to actually mention that Sarah Palin was an idiot on CNN during the elections.

Also, when you have someone like John King interviewing Dick Cheney and not calling him out on any of his responses, what can you expect? King should have asked Cheney how much money he made from the Iraq war.

45. Actually, according to TVNewser, Dobbs was in second place in the demo...
audience only trailing Fox News in last night's ratings. While ratings do fluctuate from one day to the next, Dobbs generally holds second place in the demo. He also has better ratings than both Blitzer and Brown and barely trails Larry King and Anderson Cooper. So I don't think that Dobbs is the problem.

7. Most advertiser buying time on CNN are looking at their CPM
Which is their cost per thousand (people reached), and most advertising agencies will require that they post which means if they are losing viewers during the time period the commercial is running, i.e. 5pm-9pm they (CNN) will eat the lost in per spot rates, or the agency may require it to be made up in bonus commercials etc.

65. I think it was a mistake for them to fire Aaron Brown.
The new director (or whatever his title) was just all agog over Cooper.

He should've kept Aaron Brown, the grownup, and kept Cooper in a special show leading into or out of Brown's news. Big mistake. Just my opinion.

70. My thooughts exactly
They actually had a chance with Brown to rebuild an actual news organization at a time when moreAmericans are starting to see the value in one. Instead they threw in their lot with pop tabuloidism while hitchingtheir wagon to the then most current buzz boy.

75. "Shows" instead of NEWS
We've tired of "Dateline/20-20/Crime-of-theCentury/Who's-Suing-Who/Who-Should-LouDobbs-Hate" and other pre-recorded nonsense that they air over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over..

There are PLENTY of really smart people who would LOVE to be invited to CNN, to pass on some information we really need, but all they have to offer, is the same tired old batch of people who sit around pretending to yuck it up and just dribble out the same old platitudinous goo they have done for years...

We don;t watch CNN to Twitter/Tweet/email/iReport/YouTube/Facebook.. we HAVE the net..we don't need to tune in to CNN to watch NewsBarbie & NewsKen while THEY twitter & tweet:)
(we already knew they were twits)
