I present: The official House Republican Budget (from gop.gov)
http://www.house.gov/budget_republicans/press/2007/pr20090401_gopbudget.pdf

It's "53 pages" long, extremely repetitious, however the second half gives away the details.
Interesting:
Pays down debt by cutting all stimulus spending post-2009.
Funds energy plan by rejecting CBO estimates of domestic drilling revenue in favor of estimates from industry front group (American Energy Alliance http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=American_Energy_Alliance ) Their estimates are up to 900% greater than the CBO estimates.
In other words, they have no self-respect.

Here's Boehner defending the budget earlier today,

Outrageous, I tell you!

of the 53 pages @ least 8 are blank and many are 1/2 filled

2. I really enjoyed that graphic. I found it challenging.
The same way it's challenging to read a 4 year old's handwriting.

Thanks for kickin my thread!

If you look at the tables at the end, and compare with the President's budget, for deficit as a % of GDP, they're virtually identical for the whole projection.
Ha.

12. They don't even cite the "study"
In other words "trust us because the Heritage Foundation says our plan will create 2.1 million jobs". They really might as well just have said "hey look at the pretty green arrow!"

14. If we drill baby drill, that will create 1.2 million jobs, creating $80 billion in federal revenue.
That's great to know that their budget is funded by the imaginary jobs it will create.

20. They have it written down right here

The simulations show that the President’s
budget proposal would lead to a negative
change in jobs relative to a policy baseline
over the 5-year and 10-year budget
horizon.

In contrast, the simulation of the
Republican alternative budget shows a
steady increase in jobs relative to a policy
baseline over the 5 and 10-year budget
horizon. By the fifth year (2014), the
economy would produce roughly 855,000
more jobs under the alternative budget
than the baseline path, according to the
simulation. Under the President’s budget,
the economy would be producing more
than 1.2 million fewer jobs than the baseline path in 2014, according to the same economic
model. Therefore, the alternative budget implies a net increase of more than 2 million jobs
compared to the President’s budget by 2014.

6. I found this astonishing. Especially since he QUOTED Friedman stressing the importance
of educating our kids...
"The main challenge to America today is from those practicing extreme capitalism –
namely, China, India, and South Korea. .... The main objective in this era is building strong
individuals."

I case anyone needed a laugh.

8. GOP Budget = 35% Blank
62 Total Pages
Number of completely blank pages (plus Cover) = 14 pages
Pages less than half full = 15 (7.5 blank pages)
Total blank pages = 21.5 out of 62

Therefore, GOP Budget = 35% Blank.

And this isn't even taking into consideration the graphics that they use multiple times. :silly:

15. Pro-choice platform: choose which tax policy you want to follow
"Page" 32

"Offers Taxpayers a Choice. The proposal allows individual income taxpayers to make their own
choices about how best to pay their taxes. Within 10 years of enactment of this legislation,
individuals would choose one of the two tax systems. But individuals are allowed oneadditional
changeover between the two tax systems over the course of their lifetimes. Individuals are also
allowed to change tax systems when a major life event (death, divorce, or marriage) alters their
tax filing status. "

The tax reform is what bothers me the most.
You can choose the "large level of progressivity" wherein anybody making over $50,000 pays exactly the same tax rate and with huge standard deductions.
Or you can choose the old tax system (with the Bush tax cuts and other tax cuts thrown in).
But, once you choose a plan, you have to stick with that plan.
But, once during your lifetime you can switch to the other plan if you want.
But, if you die, you can switch back over to the other one. Or if you get a divorce. Or marry.

Is this even legal?

You'd have different people being forced to pay completely different taxes.
It's not enriching our lives with freedom and choice if that choice makes us subject to different laws.
