According to the Royal Press Office:
First lady Michelle Obama did not breach protocol by touching Queen Elizabeth II at a reception for world leaders attending the G-20 summit, Buckingham Palace told CNN Thursday.

"It was a mutual and spontaneous display of affection and appreciation between the Queen and Michelle Obama," the Royal Press Office said in a statement Thursday. "The London Summit reception at Buckingham Palace was an informal occasion," the statement also said.

No breach of protocol occurred, according to the Royal Press Office, because Buckingham Palace does not issue instructions about how to address the Queen.

Now can all the bleeding protocol sticklers, especially from the RW, just STFU!

1. I just love it when folks pretend to know all about royal protocol.
And then it turns out they don't. :eyes:

2. The Obamas are down to earth people and
it was probably a nice break for the Queen to be around people like them.

6. I agree. The Queen's been around long enough to know authentic when she sees it.
What a delight to meet an intelligent and graceful American leader and family man who comes from humble beginnings. Unlike the ignorant boob who she visited with last - you know the one who swaggered and thought he was hot stuff and a warrior cowboy.

3. Thanks for posting this. I think I heard more than twice yesterday that
the Queen wanted the couple "to be themselves." She wanted them relaxed. It's so tiring isn't it??

7. CNN just now had a British journalist/writer who has been covering
the roytal family for years. To start, the CNN anchor (a woman with long brown hair) said that some have reported that the Queen made the first move, but Christianne Amanpour INSISTED that Michelle touched the queen first! The royal writer/journalist said that Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen "made move on Michelle," not the other way around. He went on to say that Michelle breached no protocol because the rules have relaxed greatly over the past 10-20 years, and the Queen was smiling and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the embrace. How the hell would Christianne Amanpour know anyway? Was she there? And when is she ever right about anything?

Some idiots on my local radio station said this morning that "Michelle rushed in ahead of the President and grabbed the Queen in a big bear hug." Jesus, it's not that hard to get the straight scoop on something that is so public. But wingnuts don't care about the facts, they enjoy being liars and jerks.

9. They make stuff up, when they are called on it they ignore that and just move on to the next lie.
It's what they do always, even the last of their 23% base are finally getting it. They have no credibility, people need to seriously stop watching them.

Watching only encourages them.

10. Exactly and that is the reason this series of tubes we are on right now
will prevent the RW smear machine and echo chamber from doing to the Obamas what they did to the Clintons.

Even far into his second term, so many folks were still not on the Internet.

But now, they can repeat their lies and smears as much as they want and it falls on deaf ears. Because while they are busy chanting their BS to the dead enders, we are on here collecting information, sharing our own opinions and coming to different conclusions based on truth and fact that we can then share with thousands, if not millions, in seconds.

It's a different world!

Queen's fury as Bush goons wreck garden

Nov 23 2003
Exclusive By Terry O'Hanlon

THE Queen is furious with President George W. Bush after his state visit caused thousands of pounds of damage to her gardens at Buckingham Palace.

Royal officials are now in touch with the Queen's insurers and Prime Minister Tony Blair to find out who will pick up the massive repair bill. Palace staff said they had never seen the Queen so angry as when she saw how her perfectly-mantained lawns had been churned up after being turned into helipads with three giant H landing markings for the Bush visit.

The rotors of the President's Marine Force One helicopter and two support Black Hawks damaged trees and shrubs that had survived since Queen Victoria's reign.

And Bush's army of clod-hopping security service men trampled more precious and exotic plants.

The Queen's own flock of flamingoes, which security staff insisted should be moved in case they flew into the helicopter rotors, are thought to be so traumatised after being taken to a "place of safety" that they might never return home.

The historic fabric of the Palace was also damaged as high-tech links were fitted for the US leader and his entourage during his three-day stay with the Queen.
