Obama has a terrible job and we need to do our best to support him
I certainly don't even know how he gets any sleep with all the
work he has to do to try to straighten out the awful mess the
world is in. And that is not taking into account the wingnuts
calling for his head, not to mention the real crazies who
threaten his life every day. For now, please let's let him do
his job-he won't be perfect because nobody is, but he is so
much better than we have had and much better than anyone else
out there could be. And we all know they really want his job.

If you want to read an article that is thought provoking, I
advise you to look at this in The Huffington Post.

1. Did you read the first reply to that post?

"I am sorry sir, but we are not republicans. We do not march in lockstep in order to appease our government. I will always stand up and voice my opinion when I see fit, and I will not sit idly by when I see things being done in our name which we do not agree with.

Yes, I voted for President Obama, and I would again, but NO, I will not stand silent when things do not appear to be right. You sound like all the people telling gays and lesbians and transgendered people that "now" isn't the time for their equality. Wait just a little longer, and then, maybe, we can address the issues and fix your problem. The only problem with your tactic is that the time to speak up and act NEVER comes. There will always be some issue that might be affected by our speaking out, so when exactly do you propose that we speak up?

Powerful people NEVER want to hear the voice of those they are supposed to represent, so, as I say, NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT."

4. That cartoon was made to represent Republicans
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 11:53 AM by Zodiak
...you know, the very people who fucked this country up? Which is why it is (was) a good cartoon.

This is not anyone on DU...and the fact that you changed the cartoon to address your fellow DUers speaks volumes about what you think of this community.

If you wanted a more accurate representation of the position of DUers, put some tiny little autoworkers, home-owners, and civil libertarians under the fat asses of these Republicans begging to be rescued from being crushed...and being essentially ignored.

ON EDIT: Sorry to the poster below, but I cannot see your posts. Ignore list, you know....should have been nicer to your fellow DUers because that it the ONLY reason I put people on ignore.

6. booing is booing, the context still stands
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 11:50 AM by NJmaverick
It's not the entire DU community though, but a vocal and active minority. Every poll shows strong support for Obama and his job performance. There is roughly 20% that object, but from the volume of posts, you would think that percentage was 80 or 90 percent.

7. its what i think about a very loud minority of Duers
I would put in all the little people, but they wouldn't be the ones booing.

P.S. i would appreciate being on your ignore list as well. Thank you.

8. I also have come to realize that a small minority is doing its damnedest
to drown out anything positive.

11. Then you are caught up in the tiny little microchosm that is this website
Most of us are here to discuss bigger issues rather than launch divisive attacks at people who up until a few months ago were considered allies. This is a community.

As far as small minority, there have been over 300 recs to the "I don't want a pony" thread which stayed at the top of the greatest page for three days, so I think you are mischaracterizing the amount of people on this site who have problems with some of Obama's policies and also mischaracterizing why they object.

Perhaps you would be better served discussing the issues rather than launching group attacks on your fellow DUers in defense of a political personality.

But no, you do not get on my ignore list until you are overtly vicious to other posters. You are free to qualify, but then again, that only underscores my point, does it not?

14. your points fail on magnitude, scope and direction
minority is the correct characterization. Your defense of them is almost as foolish as your choice of illustration. Your recommendation that remain on issue is injudicious considering the level of blind distortion exemplified by these troglodytes. Finally, while i am supremely confident that your friends on the other side of the DU aisle have received equal scorn from you, perhaps, instead of expressing such selective outrage, you should spend your time more productively. let me suggest reading a book.

Now, since you are not kind enough to do me the honor of putting me on your ignore list, your blind support of the obama-bashers invites me to provide this service to you.

17. Foolish, troglodytes, fail, bashers...etc.
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 04:30 PM by Zodiak
Not the words of someone using reason. Just more divisiveness and not a speck of evidence.

And it is not blind support of anyone, it is defense of the principle that a person has a right to criticize their government, their President, their party, etc. This country features and even cheers such a right, and the DU rules state very clearly that criticism is acceptable as long as progressive principles are honored and the criticism is constructive in nature. I support any DUer who acts within the rules, and I do not place any value on making any American politician above criticism.

DU, however, does not support the right to denigrate other DUers and does not support divisive comments. It's in the rules.

You can tell me I'm stupid, need to read a book, fail, etc., but that is just empty rhetoric devoid of anything but scorn. I find it rather disappointing that you would resort to such tactics so quickly. I would like to think DUers are generally better than that...it is not progressive to resort to bully tactics against someone is ostensibly a political ally.

Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 11:57 AM by NJmaverick
I hope his message is not lost (although my expectations are that it will be). Otherwise we are all going to pay the price for their follies.

9. I'm not the best at understanding how to respond etc to posts...
But I just wanted to share that article with everyone-I think it says a lot. I am not suggesting we cannot have opinions-we all certainly do-I just want people to know it is important to support Obama, tho we may have our differences with some of what he is doing.

15. Evidence?
Does the corollary to that thread I mentioned have so many recs....or even half as many? At least I presented some sort of data that there are plenty of critics here. All you provide is an assurance, which in the final analysis, is only the opinion of one person (a person who doesn't seem to respect this community enough to not be divisive, I might add).

16. Thanks.
Wish I believed it'd make some kind of difference.

Sadly, I forsee a continuation of the situation as it is... people cheering on hit-pieces and shoddy propaganda and defending it as fair criticism.

Alas.
