Would the hug have been a "hug-gate" if it was Barbara or Laura
Bush or Nancy Reagan or Hillary Clinton instead of Michelle Obama.
While race may have nothing to do with this reaction and perhaps it would have been the same regardless which First Lady was involved, I can't help but wonder if some of this reaction may be due to some people's concern about yet another indication of the Obama's "uppityness" - and the fact that the world is a very different place than it was even a few months ago.

An essential element of maintaining entitlement is maintaining the appearance of exclusivity and superiority. Seeing the Obamas in this setting is probably pretty jarring to such people. Seeing them in this setting, not only not acting overly grateful that they were allowed to be there, but behaving as if they fully believe they have every right to be there probably scares them to death.

1. Oh race has a lot to do with this. The hug, the iPod, everything...
Some people are anxiously anticipating the Obamas to "slip up" and reveal to the world that it's all been an act, that persons of color could never be as classy and sophisticated as they "appear" to be.

That is the undertone to all of this and it's appalling (i.e. par for the course for freepers and the MSM).

8. So I'm not the only one who senses this. Interesting.
Thanks.

9. exactly
I'm really glad that despite the best attempts of the MSM and Obama haters, most people think these made up issues are ridiculous.

2. There's a hug-gate happening?
Heh!

I remember the chimp actually groping foreign leaders. That was really embarrassing!

4. What hug-gate? As I recall seeing, Queen Elizabeth had no problem with it, the British media didn't
either.

Any "outrage" is strictly US M$M trying desperately to portray President Obama in any negative light.

I am back from posting a cooment on Townhall on a blog regarding President Obama bowing to the Saudis and First Lady Michelle hugging the Queen of England, the RWers there are of course ragging on both of them, but they weren't happy when I posted this YouTube link...hypocrites!!

6. Probably
would've been a "hug-gate" regardless of which First Lady it was. Can't say for sure. But I don't think it's a big deal that our First Lady did what she did.

7. Not that it would have happened -
None of the Republican 1st Ladies in my experience have been 'huggable' types. A person could cut himself trying to hug Nancy Reagan. And i can't imagine anyone wanting to get within arms' reach of Barbara Bush.

On second thought, though, I think that Laura could have really used a good hug - she always came off as a 'little girl lost' when she wasn't zoned out.

10. Of course not because the Queen would never have hugged either of them.
And, according to Buckingham Palace, the Queen put her arm around Michelle first, and liked Michelle's reciprocation.

11. I've described the Obamas as "hug magnets" for over a year.
While I'm absolutely no judge of Barack's "hugability" (but am assured by others he is), I can assert with COMPLETE confidence that Michelle, Malia, and Sasha ARE super, magnum, top-of-the-line HUG MAGNETS. I think a person would have to be either a total sociopath or an unrecovered victim of sexual abuse to NOT be inclined to hug any one of them. If I were to meet any one of them, I'd be damned CERTAIN to invite a hug. Udamnwellbetcha.
